Office 07 Licensing?

I'm about to say bye-bye to Vista and install the Windows 7 RC. However, I re-install my OS every six months, and obviously with that comes a re-install of Office etc. Last time I re-installed, it said that my copy of Office was being used on too many PCs (only actually being used on mine, but assume that I had installed it more times than the license would allow). I had to ring Microsoft and they, very helpfully, re-activated my key.

My question is: will I have to do this again when I install Office on Windows 7? Don't want to risk peeing Microsoft off!

your Office 07 licence can be transferred from PC to PC indefinitely. additionally, Office 07 can be installed on both a desktop and a mobile PC (laptop, netbook etc...) at the same time on the same license :)

Didn't know that, shame I'm running Linux on my lappy and nobody's got it working easily via Wine yet :(

But seriously, I had to phone MS last time I installed it, surely if it can be transferred indefinately I wouldn't have had to do this?

That's true for some of the Office licences but not all. Check your EULA.

OEM is non transferable, if you wanted the ability to transfer it to another pc, you would need to buy a retail boxed copy

Burnsy: The EULA suggests that I can transfer the software to another device (which I assume this counts as?) once every 90 days, so I would be within my rights to do this then?

Madman: It's a retail version. :D

To uninstall Vista (and therefore the Office install which is on Vista), and re-install Office on my new Windows 7 install.

Cool cool, cheers Burnsy; you seem to know all things Microsoft so I'll take you at your word ;)

Is the licensing done by computer (ie when MS detect you installing it on more than one PC they flag it), or by how many times it's installed/re-installed, whether it's on the same PC or not?

It's somehwat less sophistcated than that. Either way, just phone the activation line if it doesn't work automatically.

OK will do, thanks for your help! They won't mind that I phoned them last time I re-installed Office as well will they? Had a hard drive failure in January, and tried to re-install it then and needed to give them a buzz.
