I’ve just rebuilt my PC and I’m unsure whether or not to upgrade my copy of Office?

I get educational licences generally, but a couple of years back when I got 2003, I managed to somehow to end up with the top version :D

So would a 2007 upgrade be worth it, what’s new etc. Or am I just better off staying with what I’ve got?

Before anyone starts recommending Open Office, I do use that too sometimes :)

Cheers,

SW.

I really enjoy using Office 2007. Interface is very nice, and it's far easier to find and use the various features that Office has, instead of trawling through menus and windows.

Found it very useful so far. PowerPoint earned me some compliments on my visuals when I used some of its fancy effects and templates for a presentation a few months back (for my degree), and Word is now able to completely handle citations and references, and generate a bibliography for you automatically.

If you don't use Office much and won't benefit from the new features, there's probably no reason to upgrade yet. I like it a lot though, well worth the money.

I found it took quite a while to get used to, but once i had got used to it it was great. The only problem i had with it was that it doesn't save in a backwards compatible format, although that can easily be changed. Apart from that i really like it :D

I really like. It's much easier to teach than the old versions of Office, too. Whether it's worth an upgrade is, simply, whether you can afford it or justify it. I find that it's easier to make things look more professional, and it integrates well with Sharepoint.

Its a massive departure GUI wise from 2003.
I run it, and ive got no opinion of it.
To me, its no better or worse than 2003.
:).

Personally I hate it, with a passion, vengence & furious anger!!
Trying to do simple tasks that you have to now hit help or google to find out how to do. Probably the most infuriating software I have every used.
I do quite like outlook 2007 though.... :)

It takes time getting used to, once you have got the hang of it then it is very easy to use and I find it better.

I wonder why they kept outlook2007 the same, execpt for mails. the inbox screen ect has all, file, help ect of old times.

Download a free trial from Microsoft's website and see what you think, only way to know really as its quite a marmite, love hate thing really

I like it!

The main items I use are Microsoft Word and Outlook. It is very hard to get used to straight away - but after a couple of days messing with it to get it looking and acting how you want I don't think you will turn back.

Personally I like 2007 it seems a lot more cleaner in terms of layout. But I am stuck with 2003 as that is what I will be using for the next two years when doing my ICT course.

I'm hoping my Uni installs the update for Office 2003 that allows it to use 2007 files. It's a hell of a pain having to save stuff as 2003 files just so I can print them off.

Its possible to customise the GUI in it?

Never heard of that, wheres that available from.
Sounds like good material to blast out via GP at work. :).

I've given Office 2007 a quick go but I haven't got it yet. I don't have Office 2003 either. I'm still stuck with Office 2000. So I think I will move to Office 2007 soon. I can get it for £75 thanks to an IET discount.

A couple of mates of mine have Office 2007 and from what I've seen of it, it looks pretty cool. I used the trial version to do some uni work and the graphs looked very nice, especially when compared to Office 2000.

Checking out Wikipedia it seems there's about 8.5 years between Office 2000 release and Office 2007 so I think I deserve the latest version and when its £75 well it'd be rude not to eh! :D

Hey, don't hold back tell us what you really think:D

My wife works for the nhs and she purchased the enterprise edition for about £17.00. I produced a spreadsheet at home and tried to load it on my works computer (2003) but wasn't able to do so - obviously because of the backward compatibility. How did you do it? I tried various combinations!

For me (a touch typist) it is too graphic and much prefer 2003.

Thanx Marc, I couldn't see it for looking. I was told but haven't had it confirmed that members of the Civil Service (MOD) can also purchase 2007 for the same price as NHS!
