Office 2003 - Word problem

Word gives a message that it's going into Safe Mode every time when opened, then the computer freezes. You get an option for safe mode Yes or No but regardless of which, word does not open.

The owner has stated that this error only occured when she opened an e-mail attachment and since then, word has not been working. Might be coincidence

Any ideas how i stop this message and get word working again?

In the help menu theres detect and repair - this may help.

You will probably need the installation files / CD to do this though.

Alternatively a reinstallation of the program would probably work as well the first option is essentially doing that though not fully.

Check if it's a profile issue first - i.e. log in as another user and see if the same error occurs. If it does, it's a problem with the application, if it doesn't - rebuild the user's profile.

Damn this problem :(

I've tried:

Repairing Office
Uninstalling Office
Running CCleaner
Deleting the user profile and creating a new one
Ran RegCleaner.

Still getting this same error message when starting Word, It's strange also that theWindows locks out.

I think the next stage is re-install of XP, something in the XP registry has obviosly been corrupted when the user has opened this attachment of some kind.

Any further ideas before I zap the HDD?
