Office 2010 out on Technet

Everyone has told me 2010 should be on volume licensing today, but ive just noticed a microsoft sharepoint dev said it wont be on until the 29th, that's a bugger as i need the VL copy for an image right now :(

Will get it downloaded later, but...
Does it still look Horrrrific?

I wouldn't say it's horrific, but it has had an overhaul since 2007. Outlook 2010 still looks odd to me with it's bland colour schemes, and the side panes all seem to blend into each other.

32bit is the default, and is what MS suggest you install in pretty much all cases.

Once you've downloaded the ISO, there's an Office64.en-us folder. Not sure what happens if you run the files in there, as I haven't had any time to play with it at work today.

With Outlook 2007, if you got a new e-mail when the application was open, it placed an icon in the system tray so you could see you have unread messages without having the window open. Is there any way to restore that in Outlook 2010?

Would have thought that'd still be default behaviour in pre-Windows 7 installs. In Windows 7, the new mail icon is now in the program icon on the taskbar. Evidently the new philosophy is to get all the clutter out of systray.

I've not been able to get this working in 2010. The option is still in the same place, but ticking it doesn't seem to actually do anything in Windows 7.

The option says 'notification in taskbar', not system tray. As above, this no longer shows in the taskbar for windows 7, but in the taskbar icon.

See here for what this looks like. Note you need large icons on.

Downloaded yesterday and had a quick play with it, going to put it onto my company laptop at some stage to give it a real test.

Can't wait to get it rolled out to 5000 desktops.

You're doing that soon without any major testing first?
If you were running say 100 desktop's I could see an early roll-out being possible.
But rolling out to 5000 desktops more or less as soon as it's released - hope you've done a good risk assesment.
