Wiped the mrs's laptop and put everything back on it. Everything is working fine except office. It's now deciding that the CD key is not valid when it goes off to validate it.

I'm a little confised as this key worked fine the first time round. I've tried to activate the code over the phone but it also doesnt work.

Has anyone had anything like this before? Also does anyone know which part of Microsoft I should be trying to contact? I've had a look round the site but I can't find anything that might the be right place.

When you say it didn't work exactly what did the message say, did you not speak to an operator?

Did it ask you how many computers it was installed on?

It's saying that the key is not valid. When I called Mircosoft it was the automatic registering tool that decided it wasnt valid and that I might have been a victim of fraud....but didnt give any information as to what to do from there.

At no point did it ask me how many machines it was installed on.

So the installation accepts the key and then asks you to activate and presents you with an installation id? Or does it not accept the key at all?

If it is not accepting the key you may have the wrong installation media. Just to confirm this is the full retail boxed version which cost you around £400 yes?

Possibly really daft one, but worth checking the System clock/date/timezone is correct - that can cause all manner of problems with Activation (scared me when it happened to some brand new servers at work with OEM licenses)
