Office 2010 Public Beta

Nothing new really for me with 2010, I just have upgrade-itus like new shinny things, and in general like to play. Anyhows I m back on 2007 for now hopefully new beta will come out soon that fixes some of these problems.

As for what are ms doing maybe drugs judging from the smiley faces hehe.

Will give it a try, ta. Good to see Microsofts turnaround on public testing and feedback. Wouldn't have had this a few years ago.

Office 2010 Beta looks very good, and so did the Technical Preview. I'm looking forward to the final release :)

Btw, Outlook 2010 Beta is working perfectly for me.

Could anyone post some photos of Outlook, the main screen and the tools > options pages should do. I'm guessing the 20 odd group polices ive added/created for Office 2007 will no longer work in 2010?

What functionality does Outlook 2010 offer over 2007? Hopefully Out of office balloon notifications will be scrapped in place of the old notification box in 2003. We have users who turn their out of office on then forget because they are too busy when they get back and leave it turned on. Before a box would appear in the middle of the screen but now just a small balloon.

A few other big things like not being able to print the first page of an email (without exporting to html) instead only being able to print 'memo style' and odd/even pages. What the hell is wrong with microsoft??

I had to sort the printing problem out this morning. Service pack 2 adds the print range functionality to outlook.

Thanks, ill get that now. Will it have an impact on any of the office group policies like saving into .doc instead of docx for example or the disabled items in outlook user interface (recover deleted items) Or anything else like paths of archive email folders?

edit - ignore that. looks like we already use it now, the only machine that hasnt got it on is mine because im out the default OU group of the company. handy!

Nice one...just installed the 32 bit version and it flies so will try the 64 bit version at home....sweet....

Install was quite slow, the Web Apps are a bit hit & miss (although what works is nice)

I quite like it though from the first hour of use. The "Send a Smile" thing is a bit weird however with two faces in your system tray.

You can uninstall that "Send a Smile" program seperately in add/remove programs. I did instantly :D

So far liking it all, although the new print properties layout I find a bit bizzare at times. The install was also painfully slow - It was actually faster on my 1000H Eee than my main Q6600/4GB RAM main desktop.

Could someone test Outlook for me and see what notification is displayed if you turn on the Out of office message then come out of Outlook and go back in.

Does it stay on the bottom right as a small notification, come up in the middle of the screen or come up with a red box around it near the top of the screen. I was led to believe the latter with Outlook 2010.

I cannot test as the download was hammering out connection so paused it and will resume out of work hours

I will probably give this a miss then. Not heard good things about Outlook 2010.

This is one of the things 2010 looks like its fixed

http://www.msoutlook.info/question/283

Is there any way in Outlook 2007 to get reminded more visually that my Out of Office is still on?

Unfortunately there isn’t. The only notification that Outlook 2007 has, is the (temporary) balloon pop-up in the bottom and the (permanent) status bar notification...

in Outlook 2010, there will be a large red strip reminding you that the OOF is still turned on.

Had it on since yesterday morning, wasn't keen on the conversation layout, kinda keep turning it on when I am not too busy and fiddling with it.

Looks great in the black scheme as well

Had it crash a couple of times, then Outlook decided to stop an add-in, been fine since then,

OneNote works a lot better in 2010 though, actually using it now :)

Quite a few posts in this thread say good things about it! You read the thread right?

I have used it all day today and I haven't come across any issues with Outlook or Word. I didn't have to do a darn thing when I first opened Outlook. It found my profile from 2007, loaded it up and off it went without missing a beat.

We shall see how it goes in the long run, but so far very impressed.
