But it's blates not. Anyone seen this error before?

Most odd and tres annoying. I've seen it once before when the user had Office 2007 and it hadn't removed everything. This isn't the case though, clean build

Not sure, I'll have to ask the user. I assume it's the same little popup box error you get when you do actually try to install Office 2010 x64 on Windows 7 x32

Are you sure it's not the message about 32 bit components of office that are already installed?

Such as SQL connectors, shared office features, outlook social connectors, that kind of thing.

I had a great one the other day, telling me I could not install x64 Project 2010 because I had 32-bit office products installed (I didn't, I had 64-bit). I couldn't install 32-bit Project 2010 because it (correctly) said I had 64-bit office products installed! Randomly, I'd ended up with an SQL connector installed in bother 32-bit and 64-bit flavours, no idea how, as after removing it and then trying to manually reinstall the 32-bit connector, it moaned that I had 64-bit office, so how did it get there in the first place

I kind of wish they hadn't bothered with 64bit Office this time around.
Microsoft themselves say there are no advantages to running 64bit - there are also numerous plug-ins and connectors current unavailable for 64bit.
And - you've got problems as described above, I've seen similar.

They should have waited until they had all the connectors, plug-ins and other components available in 64bit and then released.
