Hi all,

What are peoples thoughts on Office 365?

I started a thread somewhat recently asking for advice on what we can do to improve our current exchange server at work. Although I was initially against going for Office 365 - It seemed that the initial consensus for it was quite positive.

So it looks like we are going to go for it - We have around 15 mailboxes, I think, and we're also going to have some "aliases" setup.

We're going for the standard Office 365, which only includes Exchange, OneDrive and a few other bits and bobs that we likely won't use...

Firstly - From anyone that has made the jump to Office 365 Exchange - What is your feedback?

Secondly - What is your feedback on OneDrive?

We currently have a Server that has about 200GB of data, that I would like to move to OneDrive so that all of us can remotely access all the files - I have been told that this is possible, so I am looking forward to burning our server :p :p

Thanks,

Marky

Where I work we run couple thousand businesses with 0365 and it’s an absolute doddle to administrate.

I love it and the biggest problem what causes us is users can’t login cos they forgot their password. Other than that it’s great. Will be even better when all the boxes are upgraded to 2019 shortly.

We have mailboxes that’s 200GB each in some cases! Lots of mail!

It's pretty good, there's a lot to be said for not needing any Exchange admins in the company. The nature of it being cost predictable and operational rather than capital expenditure is very nice.

However, when it breaks (when, not if) you won't be able to do anything to fix it and you won't be able to give any meaningful updates or estimated timings to the business. Exchange Online has been pretty much broken since Monday for us due to Microsoft messing something up with MAPI. It's affected different people at different times, some people continually and some people haven't been affected at all. Then just to make things a little more fun, on Friday they had a database issue which meant we can't see any service health stuff in the portal. Microsoft are having to post updated about to to a public facing status page (https://status.office.com).

Also, don't forget that EOL needs to be backed up. The data is resilient but it's not immune to people deleting stuff.

OneDrive for Business is ok. There's a unified OneDrive/OneDrive for Business client now which works well. The previous version was utterly hopeless at syncing. We've not planned to move our data to the cloud yet, we're making limited use on OneDrive but I can't see ir replacing our file servers in the short to medium term.

We are completely cloud, O365 everything. OneDrive is great, even more so know that there are dedicated ADMX templates, so you can tweak settings to allow or mandate stupid users to auto sync desktop/documents/pictures to OD.
