I'm having a problem with Office 2004 for OSX. Every time I open any of the Office 2004 programs they take forever to load. Its been happening for a while but with the deadline for my dissertation looming ever closer I'm using my mac more between classes to get some more work done and it's really starting to get annoying. I've repaired all the file permissions, deleted the preference files and the only plugin I have installed is the Adobe PDF one but it can still take more than 3 minutes for Word to load. Any ideas?

Do you have anti-virus software kicking in? I seen Norton scanning Excel files before loading, which slowed the system down.
However, are you sure you don't have a viral infection on that pc? When did you scan last and what with?

Running on an Intel mac?
If so, Office 2004 is not native - it runs under the Rosetta emulation, which slows it down and requires large chunks of memory.
Office 2008, out this year at some point, will be a Universal binary (PowerPC and Intel native)
