Just noticed an update appear that was Office Genuine Advantage addon. I thought this would trip up a lot of people as I come across dodgy Office versions quite often. I didn't know it was THIS bad though...

Office Genuine Advantage: 45% failure rate highlights partner opportunity

The launch of Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) notifications on 25 August presents an opportunity for you to help customers get genuine. In the UK, 45% of customers using the "machine check" option to establish whether their copy of Office was genuine, failed validation between January and June this year.

Thought maybe 10-15% but that is staggering!

I'm suprised it's that low to be honest, it's the number one issue I run across when dealing with peoples computers with regards to upgrades or reinstalls.

No - what is crazy is that Office Home costs around £60 yet people still feel they have to thieve the software.

Just goes to show that those people who keep on saying "If software was cheaper people wouldn't pirate it" are talking BS.
Considering Office would set you back at least £250, the fact you can get Office 2007 Home & Student for £60 should be a no-brainer.

No. in my admittedly limited experience people these days when you point out that Office is around £60 for a three machine licence will happily buy it, it's older systems with older versions that used to cost a fortune that are the main issue.

I had the pirated version. I didn't do it to save money either. I did a quick search around, and the first thing I found was a 2Mb/s download of the pirate, long before I saw an option to buy it. Just for ease and speed I went for the pirate back then. I'm sure if there was a cash-point and an MS Vendor in my university room I would have got the legitimate copy instead :p
