Hi all,

I currently have a Dell D630 which I use mainly for work, but also personal stuff.
It's a Core2 1.8, with 4GB of ram, a 14inch widescreen and a basic Quadro graphics system.

However, it's getting on a bit so I'm keen to upgrade. My requirements are:
  • No more than 2.5kg
  • No bigger than 15inch screen
  • Must be a professional type machine (i.e. no stupid gadgets)
  • Must have enough 'oomf' to run windows 7 easily (i.e. dedicated graphics)

I've been very pleased with several Dell machines because they're basic, reliable and funcitonal, which is much more than I can say for the Sony machines I've had.

So far I'm looking at the latest Dell Latitudes, but am disappointed they don't have DDR3 memory or high-res screens. Also looking at a Macbook Pro because of the spec, but the cost is an issue.

Budget is somewhere around £1200 inc VAT.

Any ideas?

I have a dell precision for work; a little old now, but £1200 is plenty once you phone them up and knock some money off it. DDR3 is irritating though; but a quadro card is more importand for me (CAD).

We also have Toshibas / Sonys, but I'm not that keen. Wife has an IBM tiny notebook, and its fantasic (although no graphics), I know nothing of their range, but I would certainy look next time.
