Got a new job in a relaxed office that allows us to use the PCs for gaming over lunch and after work. The PC is nicely quick already (dual Xeon quad core 1.86Ghz, 4GB RAM, Vista Ultimate) but only has a Quadro FX550 grapics card in it.

Whats the best mid priced card I can put in this (about £200 budget) I was thinking one of the new 8800GT cards??

excellent, thanks for the quick info, would never of spotted the difference between the 320/640GTS and the new 512GTS model. Think i'll get the EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS "Crysis Edition" card or is there one thats much better than the others?

I would maybe suggest the incoming 8800gs could be an alternative. Obviously its a work PC and your gaming needs will be @ 1hour intervals really why spend £200 or so on a card for work unless you have the spare cash sitting about of course.

The 8800gs should arrive soon and probably be priced around the £100-110 mark and could be a good alternative! Also remember there are some 8800GT's in 256mb flavour floating around just above that range around £120 so maybe that could be a consideration.

If you want to spend the whole £200 however get the 8800 GTS 512MB

P.S no card is particularly better than the other as they are all based on the reference design on the 8800GTS so pick the cheapest one and enjoy :) If warranty is an issue then BFG offer lifetime and EVGA offer 10years but cover overclocking, changing the fan etc!

8800 GS? There really are too many cards! When are they expected out? I was planning on a £200 budget as I'll be playing on a Dell 24" so I wanted something that was up to the job - how will the new 8800 GS compare to the 512 GTS?

Just a few words of warning - Check with your employer ref Policy of installing a new card etc .

What happens if machine dies or goes faulty; are you allowed to install yourself/is there a maintenance cotract and would you breach this if you installed yourself.

Insurance

Health & Safety

What happens if & when you leave to anything you have paid for but added to the machine.

etc

P.s. (1) What monitor/res you running ?
(2) Can you buy the game and card (or equivalent ) cheaper seperately - that way you have a full boxed copy of the game and the card to sell later

No problem with employer, I sit opposide the owner who has OK'd it all. I'll just keep the old Quadro in the store room.

monitor is Dell 2407WFP @ 1920x1200 but might have to lower that for gaming
