Hi Guys,
Is there an easy way of setting up a simple phone system that will someone to do the following:

answer incoming calls from any handset
transfer calls to and from any handset

We only have 1 line coming in but we need to have about 8 phones?

There's a software based telephone system called Asterix, which is meant to be very good. It runs on linux, but there is a version called Trixbox that has everything you need on a boot disk. You will still need IP phones on all your desks (start from about £60 a pop) and some way to connect the Linux box to your phone line. I think you can either use a modem (do some research on this because Linux is very picky about PCi modem) or Zoom make some network attached phone gateways (handy if the exchange is going to be a fair way from the master socket.)

If you want to have a bit of a play you could install trixbox on Sun's Virtual Box software, you can also use software on a PC instead of a physical IP phone.
