***Official 2010 F1 thread***

I guess Ferrari are just sore losers. Nothing wrong with their rantings. They are just frustrated as to how badly they have done this year, especially when they lost Massa who was very important to them. They then made the catastrophic error of hiring Badoer, for some bizzarre reason (Badoer in his prime was poor...in his old age, he is a joke). They then brought in Fisichella (who at the time was an obvious choice (experience with driving many cars, for different teams, with different regs), who for whatever reason, underperformed terribly.

Anyway, roll on 2010...Barrichello to Williams will now mean that Button will almost certainly remain at BrawnGP. Perhaps they are clearing the way to ensure that they can offers Button preferential treatment and outright No.1 status (something that wouldve been almost impossible with Barrichello around).

Lets hope Kimi can sort out a deal with McLaren. Kimi + Hamilton VS Massa + Alonso is just a mouth-watering prospect.

Will be interesting how Kimi would react to being number two driver... rise to the challenge, or just be chilled and race as per usual. Hmmmm!

Kimi is one of the coolest drivers I have ever seen.

He won't rise to any baits or cause any problems. He will simply do the minimum that is required of him.

Given his high pay demands, its obvious he is going for that one, big, final pay packet, before he bows out.

So then...
So far in 2010 we have:

Ferrari - Ferrari
Felipe Massa
Fernando Alonso

Red Bull - ???
Sebastian Vettel
Mark Webber

Williams - Cosworth
Nico Hulkenberg
Rubens Barrichello

McLaren - Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton

Renault - Renault
Robert Kubica

Campos - Cosworth
Bruno Senna

Toyota - Toyota

Force India - Cosworth

Lotus - Cosworth

Manor - Cosworth

US-F1 - Cosworth

Brawn - ???

Toro Rosso - ???

And possibly....

Qadback - ???

This is pretty rare for post season in F1 to have that many seats free.

2001 - Heidfeld beats teammate Raikkonen, Raikkonen is signed for McLaren
2002 - Heidfeld beats teammate Massa, Massa is signed for Ferrari
2006, 2007 AND 2009 - Heidfeld beats teammate Kubica, Kubica is signed for Renault

How frustrated must Heidy be. I'm not a fan of the guy, infact it's hard to remember him EVER doing anything of note or make a pass that sticks in the mind but he's still beaten rated team mates time and time again. Yet he was out of F1 until BMW came along and saved him and now again despite beating Kubica he might struggle again.

The best thing you can say about Heidfeld is that he's steady, and that is not a great thing in F1.

He's a good driver, but I genuinely can't see him at a top team.

He is Mr Consistent though. He isn't amazingly fast but he's very reliable, which is not something that I think attracts teams. He's done a great job in F1 so far and I think he's a little underrated. I think it'd be great to see him have the opportunity to race in one of the two best cars on the grid to see how he fares.

Oh, and his amazing man-bag.

This would surely make Heidfeld a prime candidate to be a No.2 driver?

I never actually realised that his statistics were so impressive. Though the fact that he beat Massa is no big deal. Massa has very slowly improved and evolved - in 2002, Massa wasnt anything like the driver he is today.

:D

Whichever way you look at it though he's beaten Kubica consistently and he's considered a champion in waiting. Which seems strange considering whose beating him.

Todt's first hurdles to negotiate as FIA President.

I particularly like this bit:

In addition to finding a new tyre supplier, Mr Todt must live up to the promise made in his election manifesto and appoint a dedicated F1 Commissioner.

There are some who fear that the Frenchman might stick two fingers up at Planet Paddock and appoint Max Mosley, while those that insist FIA stands for Ferrari International Assistance are waiting, fingers on their mice and logged in to their favourite message board, should Michael Schumacher be given the nod.

As for the teams, their concern is that Todt gives the job to Martin Donnelly, one of several controversial appointments during Mosley's reign.

So then, just how many of you are sat there poised to scream blue bloody murder if Todt appoints someone who has even peripherally been involved with Ferrari in the past? :)

Personally, I'm easy with anyone being in the role except Mad Max and Donnelly. I'd rather have Flavio Briatore in the role than either of that pair!

I wouldn't want MS purely because he's hardly a shining light for sportmanship and fair play.

Plus he still works for ferrari, again I would say when you dedicate such a large portion of your life to ferrari you can't then over night become unbiased. I doubt anyone could.

It would be pretty stupid to have both Todt and MS, two leading figures from ferraris greatest era.

a lot will depend how "peripherally" this ex ferrari employee was.

Jackie Stewart might be a good appointment for a couple of years... however at 70 I doubt he'd be up for a regular job like that. Failing that, who?

Why does it have to be a high profile figure we all know the name of. The politics shouldn't be in the foreground, we shouldn't need to know the names of any of them.

It can be Freddy Mchalfwit for all I care as long as he does a good job and half the F1 pages are not taken up with his name or what a mess he's creating.

But no F1 has to be about appointing people who then want to become a huge name in their own right.
