** Official 680 review thread **

So AMD and NV have cards that cost almost the same and perform on par with a bit of tweaking....boring!! how are the graphics forum trolls going to survive this :)

The only reason the GK110 is not in this is because they wanted such high performance and size from the chip their yields were incredibly bad and they didn't have a chip to put in it.

Even if it does arrive in 3 months you couldn't call it king because of the time delay, by that time the 8970 would probably be ready to go.

Did nVidia jump the gun with GK110 and lose money with bad yields, therefore subsidising with binned and already quantitative in number GK104 to balance out their profit/loss fiscal year? That's where my money is anyway.

Or are we all idiots and AMD foresaw the same problem themselves and just used their mid-high chip and kept their high-end for 8970 without making a load of hype?

We'll never know ;)

After reading more reviews my opinion is that 1 GTX 680 >>> 2 GTX 580s. Its only a slight bit behind a GTX 590 in most games, with just a little more power consumption than a single GTX 560 ti, and the temperatures are unbelievable for a high end card.

I must have one, but I'm still happy with my SLI GTX 560 tis, one of these is just better with much less power consumption!

I'll definitely wait a few weeks until the price comes down and the twinfrozrs are out before fully deciding.

What and what? 2x 580 sli is faster than a 590 so how do you fathom that one?

Just posting this again, as I want to see you 680 owners beat this score....

I am rubbish at playing Heaven but I am not too bad at playing BF3 :D

Just left the 680 to do its thing out the box.

Would you mind redoing the test but while monitoring what the max core/memory clocks get to during the test? It's just that Gibbo and review sites said they got theirs up to 1200Mhz IIRC but we all know review sites get cherry picked cards (from red and green) and why wouldn't they have a couple if good'uns set aside for a large retailer ;)

I've seen the gtx680 'boost clock' advertised at 1058Mhz, I'm wondering do they overclock themselves to what the card knows it can achieve itself or what's the craic with them!

Read the rest of the post rather than just focusing on the part you bolded and quoting it out of context.

Compare power consumption and heat output to performance of 1 GTX 680 to 2 GTX 580, my opinion was not based on FPS charts alone, and it never is.

I just ran another test

The core went to 1084 default settings 9411 3dmarks

So overall, the 680 outperforms the 7970 with lower power consumptions? Nvidia has finally sorted the original Fermi architecture from a complete mess to the brilliant Kepler. Damn... I feel like like sending back my 7950 and buying one of these  But pointless I know...

Is it fair to say that now pretty much all games currently available reach 60fps or more on average with this card, or an overclocked 7970 that either one of these are perfect for 1920x1080 gaming? as after this I guess the next step is for future cards to reach 100fps, but i'm really considering jumping to this from my 560Ti and being able to keep it for the next 2/3 years without needing to change again, as I game at 1920x1080, what would you guys recommend? thank you :)
