** Official 680 review thread **

Looks like a great card. Has a great lead at 1080p but loses this at higher resolution. So for anyone using a 7970 at 1440+ it wouldnt make sense to switch.

Just hoping to buy another 7970 towards the end of the summer when prices have come down ( I hope ).

I think thats the second link I've seen that has suggested 60-70W higher power usage from a 680gtx, which isn't surprising considering the seeming overclock. I would think this card was aimed at similar TDP to a 560ti, maybe a bit higher but when they realised it could overclock higher they whacked it up.

From a lot of results though the 7970 overclocked to use similar levels of power would likely beat the 680gtx basically across the board.

FarCry2 25 fps down in max framerate, but only 2fps down in mins, if you overclock the 7970 by 25% , probably still use less power, you'd have same max and 20% higher minimums.

AvP is already ahead, at similar power levels the 7970 will spank it, Mafia 2 similar situation, slightly behind, at similar power levels it will blow it away.

You're looking at realistically underclocked 7970 giving Nvidia the chance to overclock theirs and beat it, the actual underlying core, 680gtx slower, 7970 faster, daft clock choices by AMD. 7980 with 1100Mhz clocks, lower power, faster than the 680gtx, significantly higher at higher res.

Ridiculously bad review from TeakTown - no BF3?!! No overclocking?!! I could go on...

It is a poor review but keep in mind two things, its very likely they got a card late, and wanted to force Nvidia's hand into giving them cards in the future so they rushed out a review with benchmarks they are familiar with before launch.

It's also very possible they purposefully left off all of Nvidia's best performing games(or some) just to pee off Nvidia, who knows.

It's not a great review, but that might be rather intentionally(put us back on the review list and we'll be more favourable ;) ), but the question is are the numbers accurate for the games tested...... we'll see confirmation in not to long really.

Actually what I hope is, with seemingly dynamic clocks, a power comparison in a crapload more games than usual. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 680gtx do much better against the 7970 in some games and worse in others, if its flat 60-70W more across the board, then Nvidia's claim of more efficient is laughable. Nvidia's "tdp" ratings are....... funny at best and I suspected as much the second I saw the supposed sub 200W tdp and people thinking this meant it would use 50W less than the 7970 was always completely ridiculous.

See: "Better performance than the 7970 in our tests, $50 cheaper". As with all the data points, they're comparing directly with the 7900-series.

I believe the word they're looking for is 'competitive' surely?

Pedantic sure, but aggressive to me would mean a reasonable chunk lower than the 7970.

Power consumption looks poor, performance is there though. Interested to see the 680 compared to the 7970 when both are overclocked.

Too early to tell yet from just 1 rushed review, going to keep my wallet closed till I see some more benchies. If I buy one looks like I'll need new a psu to power it, 600w wont be enough for this gutsy beast.

Didn't the Tom's leaked benchies get dismissed as fakes? I thought the 7XXX Series mysteriously lost loads of points in those benchies?

Looking forward to OC3D and HardOCP reviews.

I don't think they were fake, but yes at least one benchmark had the 7970 mysteriously losing fps compared to it's earlier review

There seems to be fake slides rolling around with real ones atm it has already been covered that without overclock the 680 has a lower power consumption then the 7970.
