***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Will do, I'm sure I'll be back with more problems along the way :D

Something just doesn't feel right with this system at the moment. tray notifications disappeared just now, fixed that, had a whole load of windows updates to do (fresh install) so did that and half way through lost monitor signal again and it froze so I had to crash out. started ok but something just isn't right. Maybe it'll settle down.

Prime stable at 5 ghz :)

one of the older 8350s with a h100 in push-pull and coollaboratory liquid pro applied. on a Sabertooth 990fx R1.

I've found that OCing with the base clock first helps a lot with stability at higher clocks.

323 clock
1.518v cpu
1.25 cpu/nb
1.5v ram
1.212v NB
2.68750 VDDA
NB 1.8v

HT and NB about 2590

Team group 2133 Ram at ~1700 9-9-9-24-27 (needs to be tweaked)

I've got a couple of case fans pointing at the VRMs, but am replacing those with 5 x 40mm fans today. Replacing the TIM on the he VRM hs didn't really help with temps.

Progress so far

- disabled power saving features. everything else stock, rebooted, no problems

- disabled turbo core, switched off EPU power saving (didn't do that before), disabled the two spread spectrum options (didn't do that before) and increased cpu to 1.5 volts and ram to 1.65v. Left cpu/nb on auto for now (was showing 1.35 on auto which is higher than I was going set to which i thought was odd so left it on auto. Still on stock 3.5ghz now with no turbo.

Next it set LLC etc, then on with the clocks!

Check your RAM timings
What spec is your RAM ?

viper red what ? 1600 1866
Are you using auto or XMP ?
Also try setting 2T if auto is setting 1T.

The memory controller may be able to work with the RAM at 4Ghz just, but cant at 4.5Ghz.

To see if you can post at 4.5
set 1333Mhz RAM
NB 2200
Multi 22.5
vcore 1.45
Turbo OFF in BIOS
disable all power saving C1E etc.

Set LLC to high and power limiters at least 120%

Sorry mate forgot to say, it's the 1600 version. So far I have touched anything to do with RAM apart from increase the volts to 1.65, I have no clue about timings etc!

As for power limters etc I'm currently on:

CPU LLC ultrahigh
CPU current 130%
Spread spectrum off
CPU/NB LLC regular
CPU/NB current 120%
Power phase control extreme
Dram current 120%
Dram power phase control optimised
CPU 1.5V
Vram 1.65V
CPU/NB auto

power savers are all off, as is turbo so running stock 3.5ghz.

Is that all good? should I try your settings now?

You could be right! Now on 4.5!

Did exactly what you said except I left the vcore at 1.5 for now, is running pretty hot though, hit 62° on the core with one run of cinebench, although I have my H80 fans running on low setting to be fair.

Where to go next? Nudge the FSB? Or look at RAM timings?

Good we have found the culprit

Firstly reduce that vcore.
1.385 should be plenty enough for 4.5

set RAM to 1600 and manually enter these primary timings.

9,10.9.27 2T
Leave everything else on AUTO

What are your LLC options ? extreme?

did replacing the TIM lower temps at all? what was originally on there, TIM or thermal pad thing?

iv got thermal pad things on my gigabyte and iv been thinking about replacing it with some mx-4 since iv got loads of the stuff

They're thermal pads. I replaced those for some cheap and cheerful MX-2. It hasn't really helped temps if I'm honest and hasn't been worth it. You also need to get to the back of the MB on the Sabertooth, which means getting the MB out the case.

Success! Posted fine, Prime has been running for about 10 minutes with no problems and max core temp of 53°

Reckon I could squeeze some more out now? If I could get 4.8 I'd be well pleased but as close as possible would be nice

CPU LLC: ultra high
CPU Current : 130%
CPU/NB: extreme
CPU/NB Current: 130%

Voltage Frequency Auto
CPU Power phase control: Extreme

I think I may have spoke too soon though, as the cpu is throttling after about half an hour of prime blend :(

More tweaking needed.

I have 2 spectre pros in pull with the stock fans on the h100. I'm considering sending them back though and getting some NF-F12s or corsair SP120s for better performance.

You still have some RAM tuning to do.
What are timings supposed to be for your RAM ?

Are they 9,9,9,24 1T ?

That could wait though as they are working OK now.
Also with those slack timings you can probably run them quite a bit faster.
Useful if you start messing with the FSB.

You can try for 4.8 but passing prime wont be so easy and things will get toasty.

24x200 1.4625V as a starter.
Leave all your other settings alone.

Oh and have CPUz open as it is likely your CPU may throttle back.
You will see the CPU speed drop.

Also if you load up AIDA and select stability tests but don't start the actual tests it makes a good monitor.
It will show up the throttling if any and the temps..
