***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Damn it, just completed a cinebench at 4.97Ghz with a score of 780 but crashed immediately afterwards before I could get a screen grab :mad::mad:

Was trying out LLC extreme. Requested 1.44 volts, was getting 1.47!

I did managed this one though but BSOD on the second run

Some pretty nice clocks in here :) What sort of coolers are you using out of curiosity? My 8350 is only clocked at 4.4GHz, any point after that and heat becomes to much of a problem for my CM 212 Evo :(

I'm using one of the refurbed H80 closed loop watercoolers from OCUK. Bargain at £35 but you'll need different fans unless you like the sound of jet engines.

I had the same issue with my fx-8350 and a CM 212 Evo. Couldnt get it past 4.5. Then i upgraded to a Corsair H100i and i havent even touched the roof yet at 5.0ghz(not stable though but didnt do much to get it stable either) Right now im settled at 4.8ghz and a complete BF4 session of 1 hour+ gives a max temp of roughly 55 degrees. If only i had this baby back when i was running on my i7 920 (which was also cooled by the CM 212 evo) i might have been able to reach 4.4 or 4.5 on that chip with a bit of luck.

Is that stable now? :)

Is it **** :D

Just managed that bench then crashed browsing :D

Just wanted to see if I could really. Now playing the FSB to get the RAM speed back up near 1600Mhz and a small clock on the CPU/NB and HT. If I can get that nice and stable at 4.8Ghz with good temps I'll be dead chuffed.

For an air cooler, the Phanteks are effective if expensive. The two 140mm PWM fans are quiet at 600rpm and have only a whoosh noise at 1200rpm.

My current saved OC's are

4500 18 x 250MHz @ +0.1V offset, ram at 2000MHz, HT, NB at 2500MHz
4750 19 x 250MHz @ +0.125V offset, ram at 2000MHz, HT, NB at 2500MHz
5000 18 x 278MHz @ 1.525V fixed, ram at 1854MHz, HT, NB at 2502MHz (AIDA stable) no crashes yet.

Aiming to reduce voltages a bit.

You should be able to lower you voltages slightly if you haven't tried already and achieve the same speed with lower temps. So try bumping up the multiplier and reduce volts :)

When I first posted that 8320/50s could get to 4.8GHz I got slated :p

Well pre-announcement (GPUs) I noticed it was hard to find the Piledriver users as they didn't really display them in the sigs (no wonder). Since we have stuck to our guns and defended the underdog pushing out that they really are not so bad it seems more owners are now out of the woodwork and the group are now pushing each other to get the most.

I think BF4 has made people 'accept' them due to the game potentially utilising their additional grunt. With the information that future mantle games will tap into the extra cores or the GPU will muck in is also good news.

Then there is the consoles that are imminent, which are also 8-core AMD hardware which reinforces that they cannot be that bad.

Hell if *nix based OS could support these games I would try it if it meant the FX-8 was being used properly.

There's a lot of Linux support expected. A few titles are confirmed (as well as all of Valve's of course). Also just read,

As the latest good news for Linux gamers is that it appears 2K Games is bringing some of their titles to Linux like Civilization V and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

A Phoronix reader pointed out that according to Amazon, 2K Games will be releasing Civilization V and XCOM: Enemy Unknown with Linux support on 22 October. This is very good Linux gaming news given that Sid Meier's Civilization V continues to be a very popular turn-based title on Windows.

The Amazon Linux Games department also lists Borderlands 2, NBA 2013, and NBA 2014 as upcoming games too. Stay tuned to find out more details.

StarCraft 2 is apparently coming later this year. Metro Last Light is confirmed. Crysis 3 almost certainly.

As for multicore support, people keep posting that games can't take advantage of them, but fail to acknowledge that the next gen consoles cannot perform unless all the cores are used, and game developers say they are doing precisely that.

On release at the end of 2012 there was a significant group of people on OCUK who did promote interest in Piledriver and did a lot of work to prove the limits of the CPU. Teppic was one. I ordered my 8350 on the pre release date with OCUK having purchased an AM3+ capable board from another well regarded overclocker SeraphX (cheers mate). I have always had at least one AMD rig for overclocking since the mid 1990's.

You are right, software is coming to accept more cores and threads which suit the AMD approach. I hope this continues to a logical conclusion whereby however many cores are available, they can be utilised by the program. We will see.

I have yet to have a system crash or BSOD at 5GHz although It does get quite toasty on air and I am not running BF4 as yet. The north bridge may require active cooling soon, I am looking into it.

Prime is a bugbear. If you are going to be using all cores at 100%, I suppose that you should be able to run prime or a similar folding program at maximum frequency. Having eight or more threads (workers) sure hurts the temperature and I have stopped looking for prime stability on more than four workers at limiting frequency or eight at 24/7 frequency.

I have £400 in a one year savings account for a Steamroller system when it arrives :)

This one?

Thats the one read loads online bout it, people say gpu overheating or too high of a overclock but my gpu only reaches 51, its goes higher upto 64 on skyrim and sleeping dogs with high res dlc so I know its not heat.

And overclock I cant overclock my gpu much as its voltage locked also why have a £350 card if I cant overclock it? Works fine clocked on any other game. Bf3 did same I think Im done with dice and ea tbh there still having same probs as old game they haven't progressed here

I asked farmerboy to try out overnight the folding@home client and see how the FX-8 performed. Can anyone else give it a go?

Will give it a shot tonight m8 totally forgot tbh soz will post results tomorrow. As im new to it how should I run it settings ect?

Also my buddy back so will ask him bout bits for you dude

We got a great community going here keep up all the work guys we shall hide in fear no more lmao :p
