***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Strangely enough on some error seaches, other users with USB TP-Link adapters had this happen to them and unplugging that device fixed the issue. Will have to do some more investigating and process of elimination.

I guess I can get a decent PSU and put this back into my old rig, it's just going to have to wait a while and then sneak it round this missus. :D

Yes if you have other means to connect to the internet, you could try removing the TP-link. I have a PCI version of this and even with the latest drivers its a bit buggy. Certainly try all else prior to buying a new psu.

I connected it to a standard USB on the back of the motherboard instead of the USB 3 and see if that helps. The adapter and hub get pretty warm.

I've got to try out my Killer NIC today. I had issues with it before (IRQ based) but since then I've enabled Virtualization so I'll see if that helps.

Unfortunately this is the only way I can get internet im afraid. I remember on my previous system it would interfere with another driver and cause strange things to occur on the mouse. When I disabled its software and used windows' wireless management it was normal again.

Man I can't get my killer NIC to work at all. It's not even being detected. I also can't disable the onboard Intel as it doesn't disable. I'll put this to Bindi over at Bit tech and see if he can get it sorted. I even moved everything around but no dice :(

PITA. I'll probably give it to my lady along with the Soundblaster XFI Fatal1ty FPS (say that when you've had a drink :D )

I would have thought the intel NIC would produce lower latency than the killer anyway. The killer's are supposed to make gaming while downloading somewhat playable, but under other conditions they add latency?

It's the firewall I like mate. It's really, really good.

Hmm, so when you do a file search, are there ny .dmp files on your os hard drive?

Update.

I did find a list after I sourced a couple of apps - excitedly I found an AMD one called Mcat but it seems they stop supporting it a while back as it doesn't recognise the new processor.

The last couple of critical errors were caused by dxgmms1.sys and one before that was dxgkrnl.sys which is pointing to the GPU drivers being the faulty culprit. I plugged back in my other GPU into the PCIe slot and it seems ok. The drivers are the latest beta from the Graphics thread, maybe they don't like Win 8.

This has annoyed me as I thought it was an unstable overclock, but makes sense why I could bench with Cinebench, aida64 and LinX completing them with lowish temps.

My folding probably contributes to the crashes as it also folds using my GPU as well as the CPU so I will disable the GPU folding to test more.

In many ways a good result. Are your GPUs OCed when you fold? If not, then the drivers must be to blame I would guess especially if beta.

Hey guys been busy this weekend will post bios pics tomorrow and get to finish main page on rigs

GinG I see your using same ram as me any luck overclocking them I cant post if I try uping them with 1.65v and loose timings any tips for them

No GPU's are not overclocked, and I have been on one GPU for a few days and it still crashed. Once it happened overnight the other was generally browsing/streaming.

I guess Win 8 is new, beta drivers are new, maybe sort itself out through updates.

dont be scared to add voltage guys  im on water so i can cope with extra heat but i can say im prime stable, i've folded over night at full load, intel burn test and gamed for hours and she aint even flinched hope this help as a base for you guys to build off :D

hey all,

finally got my new build up and running.
8320 and the asus sabertooth rev2 board.

I'm using a H80 on the middle setting and getting idle temps of 32-35c It's too noisy on the highest setting.

Are these temps normal, seem a little high really?

Also I'm a bit clueless with over clocking, this will be my first proper attempt.

I was planning to just use the mulitplier up to 4.5ghz and prime testing after every increase and checking temps.

Do you think its possible to get to 4.5 just using the multiplier?
I Need to read up more into clocking with the FSB and memory timings?

Also I've read that 62c is the hottest to let the cpu reach while under load?

sorry for the noob questions. This thread is a massive help but a lot of its going over my head.

Hi Famas mate welcome to the family :)

What clocks are you running to get your temps? stock? Have you got your heating on? what are your ambient room temps?

It is possible to get 4.5ghz on the multi only, but, from my experience it usually takes a lot more voltage and heat going down that path. When it comes to your memory when you enable all of the overclocking stuff it will tell you exactly what speeds your memory is set to run at.

62c is a bit conservative. Now obviously you want to stay as low as possible on temps but I've seen my 8320 hit 72c and remain stable. It's more about the board overheating which isn't a worry with the Saber..

And last bit OT - where abouts are you in West Sussex? I live between there (Littlehampton) and Dorset but I'm moving back for keeps soon :)
