Without voltage changes a decent stable system will get to around 4.5 before requiring any other tweaking (IMO).

From the experience I've had it all depends. For the most part a FX 8 at 4.2ghz (which should be doable on any old board) would seem enough for a reasonable mid ranged GPU like for example the 7870. You only seem to need the very high clock speeds (4.7ghz and beyond) to help with a multiple GPU system to try and prevent bottlenecking as much as possible.

So it all sort of works out. The cheaper boards work out well with the cheaper GPU systems and so on.

its trial atm but steam have it on green light so should see it on there soon vote vote vote lol

once trial runs out uninstall and re download, its what i do :p
 
Holy *** going from the stock cooler to the TRUE with MX-4 paste dropped my temps from 65 to 35 under prime.

Glad I got a new bracket for the TRUE. :)

Done a cheeky 4.6 at 1.4 volts, 120% current and "high" line load correction.

I do need to sort out the CPU fan though, it seems to run at 100% (~2000 rpm) all the time and it's bloody noisy.

ASUS Fan Expert doesn't seem to do anything for the CPU header now. The case fan controls still work though. Hmm.

I find fan expert totally pants. I only use fan controllers rather then mb headers. So much more quiet and flexible.
