People who think we should have followed on - what are the possible outcomes?

We need a total disaster to lose this test match from this position. To win, we just need a decent bowling performance. Making them following on opens up the opportunity for the other team to win, which makes no sense with 3 days remaining.

Making them follow up opens up te chance to win?

How so?

People who think we should have followed on - what are the possible outcomes?

It would have let us get an humiliating innings victory and given an outward show of complete confidence meaning a stronger psychological edge at the next match. By playing it needlessly safe we've shown a lack of killer instinct.

We took another 3 or 4 wickets in the 20 overs bowled in the evening, really shook the Australian confidence and come out this morning to finish them off, give a thoroughly humiliating defeat and show of dominance with such a large victory margin.

Instead we've gone for the 'play nicely' option, followed up with AGAIN throwing away some of our supposed best wickets and highlighting the fact we're not really playing well, just not as poor as Australia are.

Can't believe the people who cant see the benefits of not enforcing the follow-on... Our entire top order is out of form, bar Bell! It would have been a bad decision to enforce it, and not take proper advantage of the situation.

Would the Aussies have enforced the follow on?

Need to humiliate them the way they did with us in the 90s.

completely agree, also we don't need the bravado of putting them back in, lets get a really healthy lead and bowl them out again, thats humiliating enough.

They might be thinking long term as well, the longer the Aussies are in the field the more fatigued they'll be later on in the series.

So lads, how many should we declare on?

I reckon orders should be given to speed up now and try and grab a lead of 500 which I think, would be a second innings score of 267.

I think we should be looking to give them a nervy hour or two towards the end of the day.

Tbh, we don't have to declare on any number....if we declare an hour before the end of the day, there will still be two days left, and Australia won't even get our total atm.

I think we should declare now!:p

I'm having a stupid moment. For a minute i'm thinking it's the fourth day, not the third.

In this case then, just bat steady till lunch tomorrow.

I think our lead is about unassailable now. I would tell the batters to go nuts for two hours, get it comfortably above 400 then declare with an hour of the new ball tonight.
