*****Official Ashes thread*****

I think our lead is about unassailable now. I would tell the batters to go nuts for two hours, get it comfortably above 400 then declare with an hour of the new ball tonight.

I would rather they bat for as long as possible, and try to get a few players in form. A hundred for Root and Bairstow, more runs for Bell now would be invaluable for them....Also, the longer the Aussie bowlers are bowling for, not only the more tired they will be, but the more disheartened they will be....We could win the whole series in this match if we knock a massive total here....how bad will the Aussie batsmen feel if they come in with 2 days to go needing 500-600 runs!

I am not really convinced with Bairstow, but he has a free innings here(against the Australia attack!), and England would be mad not to use it

It was, he's done well for night watch.

Indeed..but it really is unfair calling him a NW, he is practically an all-rounder:p

Difficult one, but I think the guy catching it signalled it too genuinely to try to outsmart the umpires. Looking at the slow mo, I think he caught it. But oh well.

I think it carried to be honest but its hard to see because the grass is obviously not the ground so it looks like its touched but was probably an inch from earth. That said Bell needs 105 more before he can be out.

It looked to me like it went through his fingers and he picked it up off the ground using his fingers in a pincer movement.

They were probably shouting "Rooooooooooot" like they do with Luke Donald.

Going by how we've picked up the run rate we might be planning to have an hour bowling?
