*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Does anyone anticipate any issues with 4x2GB of OCZ Reaper 4-4-4-15 (the ones with the smaller heatpipe/heatsink) in this board?

What is the safe temps are for the motherboard. Mine as got up to 50oC after playing a game. It idles at 40oC. The temp was read with the latest version of everest under the "motherboard" reading and im using the 907 BIOS. I have very good case cooling and nothing is overclocked.

Just wondering as my last mobo never went that high.

Thanks.

Just to add some clarity,

The problems I encountered were with Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz :

I had problems with both 4gb and using just 2gb. All performed fine for a couple of weeks, before I started seeing bluescreens.... These problems happened at stock speeds. Speaking to Crucial confirmed this as a known problem with X38 boards.

I'm now running with Corsair ram, and all is perfectly stable. My blood pressure is now back to normal :)

hi thanks for the reply. Yeah my nb/sb idle around 40c and underload they never reach 50c. Just woundering since it was such a high motherboard temp, never had a mobo that high.

Thanks:).

Hi, Intel state they are good enough for 90c and Asus claim they place the sensors at the hottest point of the motherboard...

Due to get this board delivered today. Just wondering what bios will it ship with, and which bios should I update to?

I'm not interested in the Rampage bios...yet, i'll give it a few months in case there's any future issues.

Another question, i'll be using the Xigmatek HDT-S1283, anyone know any problems with mounting this cooler on a Maximus?

Cheers

Can I ask you guys as to what the sound card is like that comes with the board ? I do have an X-FI extreeme music but at the momnet I am only gamimng with a headset on .

Is this card like on board sound or is it a dedicated sound card ?

Its a dedicated sound card which im now using rather than my X-Fi as the drivers were a PITA. Im using BIOS 0903 just now not had any problems and had my Q6600 at 3.7Ghz for about a month now.

Hi guys, can someone give me an indication as to which temps SpeedFan is reporting matches to what part of the board i.e. NB, SB, cores etc.? I'd rather know which each mean before I start overclocking :)

Current temps, using 2 windows SMP folding clients to generate 100% CPU (which is what I will be doing anyway):

System: 27C
CPU: 51C
AUX: 31C
Temp1: -48C
Temp2: -48C
Temp3: 0C
CPU: 100C
Internal Temp: 97C
Remote Temp: 102C
HD0: 25C
HD1: 14C
Core0: 25C
Core1: 25C
Core2: 25C
Core3: 25C
Core: 41C
Ambient: 41C

hey guys, got 1 of these boards the other day, now i primed my system 8 hours and it was all ok, but sometimes when i shut off the computer i get a high pitched noise, at 1st i thought it was the gtx but it doesent do it in my 680i. anyone else experience this? also sometimes i get no post, restart a few times and it comes on, sayin bad overclock. yet its perfect prime stable, put exact same settings and it boots again!

any ideas?

I'm pretty sure its the built in power faliure alarm on the graphics card, my ultra does exactly the same thing, nothing to worry about.

When I was building my machine last weekend I had this same high pitched whine when I first turned it on. Turned out I hadn't connected the PCI-E connector from the PSU to the gfx card (evident by the fan not turning). You might want to check the connections to the gfx card to see if you're having a similar problem.

I would have said that it might be the lack of power, but judging from your sig I don't think that will be a problem :)

yea its only now and again, sometimes it doesent do it, very strange, and with the overclock sayin not valid yet primes perfect :P

strange as hell

Just taken my maximus formula out the box to get it ready to install now my new Q9450 is here and it looks like one of the pins is a bit bent and the load plate seems to be concave along the sides parallel with the lever. So it looks like I will have to RMA it tomorrow:mad:.

What bios are you using with the Q9450?

Hi Deluxe1,

If you where asking me which BIOS I was using, I don't know yet as I will have to RMA my board as one of the pins half way between the middle and edge next to the ram is bent and also the load plate is concave so I wouldn't be able to lock it down without applying a lot of force. Going by the videos on youtube not much force if any is required to lock it in place.
