** Official ATI 5770 Thread **

Whats a good overclock? I'm waiting for my x38 board to turn up then I may go Xfire :p

I clocked it to 1000mhz and 1350mhz through ATI OVerdrive thingy. Can I push for more?

so which would you install? Latest online or one's of install disk ?

9.11s off the ATi site :)

1000 is decent IMO, not sure about the ram though.. some of the 5770s have samsung ram? and the other hynix? The one is clocking better than the other.. I have the lesser of the two :o (Asus..)

I dont notice any great difference overclocking the cards. Benchmarks give slightly better results but in game its not noticeable.

Got my asus cards and I'm quite impressed. Didn't have very long to try them out but managed 24k in 06 and 14k in vantage. Far cry 2 was very smooth and often got over 120fps. Temperatures seemed to top out at 60 on the top card and 58 on the one below although this was only after short benchmark runs (2 mins or so) idle was about 38-39. At full load I could not hear the gpu fans above my 2 case fans.

Do you have the egg or shroud cooler?

Well im joining the 5770 crowd tomorrow after 10 years with nvidia.

Ive gotten bored of everything just working on my PC so i'm looking forward to a more exciting future of crappy drivers and crashing games:D

Its not much of an upgrade but i'd need a new MB, processor and Ram to really benefit from anything faster anyway.

Any top tips for new user of a 5770 and infact an ATI card of any sort?

make sure nvidia stuff is totally gone - drivercleaner pro, reinstall or whatever. personally never had a prob with ati except when I didnt clean up properly when switching out nvidia.

All stock at the moment not had any time to try much. I will be home in an hour or so and can have decent play with the new toys.

Well a single 5770 is pretty good actually, Shattered Horizon on high settings im getting about 32-46fps.

Will probably Xfire them when I get my x38 delivered.

My overclocking skills on graphics cards contiues to suck, I only can get 955.1250 stable atm.

Overclocking only seems to give 2fps extra so I aint gonna cry about it, not worth spending hours trying to clock it better.

I wouldnt personally say the hynix is better than the samsung ram, mine only clocks to about 1290-1300 and after that it just grey screens and the driver stops responding, max on gpu is about 1070-1080.

Cheers for the advice, Im taking the opportunity to upgrade to windows 7 so will be a clean install.

Whats a good benchmarking tool to use these days? Im after something that will test the card out fully and can be left running in a loop to prove stability under a continuous load.

Would anyone mind taking some pictures of the egg cooler?

Removed pictures and shroudless heatsink would be nice to compare it to the tiny heatsink on the exhaust cooler.

Hope these help.

recieved a powercolor today - fyi shroud cooler from ocuk. (doesnt fuss me)

good service from ocuk but trying to get my computer to work has been a nightmare.

put the card in pressed the on button. doesnt boot. like it has really low power.
the fan goes and led lights up for 1sec, then restarts.
tried to see if the machine would get further without graphics card plugged in, no joy... same thing happened.

currently testing the psu- with the jumper in the motherboard power thing. gonna build up charge in the psu capacitors to see if that makes a difference.
also just cleared the cmos.
i cant say that the card is a fault but it was working fine yesterday:( damn frustrating cant try out my new card.
psu 500w earthwatts antec
2180e intel
gigabyte ga-p35c-dsr3
2hd
1optical
4 ram slots used
(previously 8800gts 320mb)

EDIT - it is posting now, hopefully thats it working

Well i think i have sorted the 2D Crashing after a lot of delving and research. The issue seems to be that on idle the gpu drops the core frequency down to 157mhz which then causes the memory to throw a wobbler and crash. Just create a profile in CCC then manually edit it so the idle speed is 400mhz and the memory is 1200Mhz and it seems to work a treat. Ok it will possibly use a tiny bit more juice but i will take that over crashing and driver not responding. :D

Must be a system specific thing a mine have always dropped to that low 2D speed and i've never had the driver not responding/crash.

Thats in interesting thing you've found there Skyline, I'll have a play later. Thanks

With my card I've noticed (via an APP I use on my G15 keyboard display) that sometimes during games the clocks with quickly change between three different states which causes a slight stutter

I realy think we have a lot more improvements to come with the 9.12 drivers for us 5770 users the current ones just don't seem quite right..
