** Official ATI 5770 Thread **

I went as far as buying them, only to find out they were triple slot coolers and having to send them back.

They wont fit if your PCI-E slots are 2 slots apart.

Good job I asked then!
Are there any others? These seem loud to me after using a 8800 for a few days (it was silent!). The trouble with crossfire is the top card is a lot hotter, 62C vs 40C which isn't helping.

Just finished my new oc I5 build with an power 5770 included. Realy happy with it, will prob add an other in the new year. Just used ati overdrive to put it to 900/1250 says it can go up to 960/1450 without unlocking but i think 900/1250 will do to start with.

I have a question or two... maybe three. ;)

Does this cooler fit "as designed" onto the 5770? i.e., no modding or proprietary fitting solution required? (I'm asking as none of the 5xxx series is listed as supported on Zalman's website.)

How does it compare, sound-wise, to the stock "egg" cooler? I'm particularly interested in idle noise.

Reckon it would equal or beat the Vapor-X? I could upgrade my original 5770 to the Vapor-X version for about the same as it would cost me to buy this cooler.

Thanks! :)

They fit fine without any modding after removing all of the stock cooling.

They are completely silent, and barely audible when turned up to full. But I do not recommend changing the egg cooler to the VF950, there will be no difference between the two.

I would rather buy the vapor x as they are cheaper than buying a reference card and seperate VF950.

I can't find an aftermarket cooler that only uses 2 slots. Is there such a thing?

Zalman VF950 is compatible, but just about the same cooling wise as the egg cooler. They just havnt updated the compatibility listing since the coolers were released.

Anything that is wider than this will not fit as it would collide with the IO bracket.

For dual slot spacing, you need a cooler that is no more than 35mm high, and for the size of the card no wider than 126 mm (maybe a few extra mm is ok).

The diagonal hole spacing on the 5770 is 61 mm, same as the 4770.

Another cooler that would have worked is the Zerotherm GX810 / GX815 that was used by powercolour and club 3D on the 3850 / 4850, but these arent available anymore.

Perhaps create a profile in CCC that constantly enforces load clocks - this solved the freezing issues for me. Hopefully Cat. 9.12 will solve all of these problems.
I've created such as profile, 300/600, but even now as I type this I can see coloured squares in the menu bar of Internet Explorer and other random artifacting.
The card randomly crashes in 3D mode after a few minutes with vertical stripes usually black&white or red, the sound loops at this point.
In addition, its freezing during bootup with a black screen and it takes 4-5 resets to get a picture.

Did the reformat work ?

Create a new profile, save it then exit CCC. Go to Windows Search, Advanced, then search C: for name of profile. Open the file in notepad and search for 15700 and replace with 30000.
My problems are all in 2D mode now at least. I've not seen any artifacting in 3D mode so its highly unlikely its the hardware so fingers crossed for 9.12 drivers magically fixing everything.

I've never had a crash in 3d mode either just 2d. Get me second 5770 tomorrow so should be able to check if it is the card or if both behave the same.

It seems to be happening on most of them, and I believe it is driver related.

After a few forced power downs, the 2D crash started to happen within a few minutes of powering the PC back on.

I reinstalled cat 9.11 and it stopped happening.

I will raise the 2D clock to 300 Mhz tomorrow, and also try to increase the 2D voltage to 1.125v.

How do you stop the card from under clocking itself? It is killing my use of AutoCAD because it is running at 157mhz x 300mhz

Edit; Sorted got it set now to step down to 600 x 11260 much a vast improvement in 2D CAD now!

Here is a picture of my crossfire setup with the Enzotech memory heatsinks installed. I think it's pretty sweet to look at but in all honesty it's not got me a better overclock :(

I tried creating a profile, but search wont find it.

Does anyone know the directory to where these profiles are saved?
