Times added for first Pirelli test (Day 3 at Yas Marina). The test is to purely make final checks and tests on the tyre compound, before being completed ahead of the tests in Feb.

Lotus were running the 2011 weight distribution of 45:55 ±1%

I suspect that other teams were as well, makes a lot of sense, but Mike Gascoyne tweeted this morning that they were running to the 2011 weight regs.

Why are they running different ballast? Is it for KERS preparation or have the rules changed on weight distribution?

Rule change from what I heard the other day by Crofty in FP.

As Flibster stated 45:55, weight distribution front to rear, so teams will be more or less restricted in ballast movement.

Haven't heard much about this. So from 2011 onwards teams HAVE to run a 45:55 weight distribution? What is the thinking behind doing this?:o

Because of the new tyres, some teams could get an advantage if they lucked their car into having a perfect weight distribution for the tyres, this makes it a more even playing field.

Quite sad, but the Pirelli tyres look good on the cars.

Ah OK. So for 2012 will the 45:55 rule be scrapped as teams will have had a season of the Pirellis and they won't be an unknown quantity?

Car weight rules are now:
The minimum weight of the car must not be less than 640 kg at all times during the event.
The Weight distribution of the car must be 45F:55R ±1%

Standardises the car a little to make Pirelli's introduction simpler and stops them building a close relationship with a team to design the tyres around their setup.

As the cars are all corner weighed anyway it's not too difficult to check that during scruiteneering anyway.
