After a couple weeks playing these are my thoughts on gameplay and players. Obviously there's some really broken stuff like ping pong bounces (worse than ever), bad passing and erratic shooting. However some of those things are just down to "how the game plays" that year.
However the thing that is really bothering me is dribbling. Dribbling is really, really,
REALLY doing my head in. I just cannot figure out what I should be doing differently. I’m just talking about normal left stick dribbling. All my players, no matter who it is, take heavy touches when receiving the ball, turn like arctic lorries and act like Maguire on the ball. Even the most agile of players I cannot control nimbly and smoothly, never had this issue in Fifa. In previous generations I was a "skiller", as it was fun and therefore the main thing I enjoyed was the actual dribbling aspect of the game.
I know it 100% has to be something I'm doing, as I've watched some of the pro players and decent Youtuber's etc and they can string together lovely dribbles and passes. I've watched tutorials and stuff in the end and still can't identify what I'm doing wrong, quite frustrating. I'm competing in Div 3 and easily getting rank 5 on Champs, feel like if I could figure out this stuff I could push for much higher finishes etc... If anyone has any tips or videos etc I will happily read/watch them!
Player wise from everyone I've used so far the only ones I'd say are a "must have" for a team are:
- VVD
- CR7 (over Haaland any day)
- Walker
- Cancelo (or Mendy)
- De Bruyne - only bought yesterday but honestly for the first time he feels really playable to me. Great runs off the ball and his shooting etc is 2nd to none.
- Keeper wise, Courtois seems the best to me, although as with every Fifa all GK's just do sporadic stupid crap.
Other players that are stables in my team but I imagine people would have their own preferences:
- Kessie (lol - but for real he's going to get an upgrade on the OTW and the card does everything you want from a CDM. Would only replace him with e.g. a Hero).
- Dembele - if you're on a budget he's excellent, I'm sure there are better options but for me he's been excellent.
Jury still out on RTTK Valverde. He goes unnoticed most matches, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as cards like Kessie do that (in a good way, your enforcers). Will give it a bit more time and see how I feel. However for the price of the card you definitely want a little more creativity but that could be how I'm using him.
I'm testing out various CB's to pair with VVD. Rudiger feels decent so far, would have liked to have done the Alaba SBC but requirements are silly.
