I don't think the story is fundamentally bad, there's just not enough depth to it. Some backstory and character interaction would be nice.

I played it for a couple of hours, then put it away and played some more FF7 instead.

This is my first FF apart from 3 on the DS and I'm loving it.

Well, once you're done with it, find a copy of FF7 on a popular auction site and prepare to be blown away. If you can't stand the dates graphics try FF10 instead, still a far superior game (imo).

In the beginning I had my doubts but then the addiction grabbed me bigtime and the need to have finished all the hunts and sidequests so currently played 204 hours and only Zodiark, Omega and Yiazmat to go.

One thing I do like is the gambit system, I have all gambit slots filled for my characters and they act excactly like I want them to act.

It is just damn good to see Vaan do a 10-hit combo against Yiazmat doing 70k damage as he has the Masamune + Genji Gloves with a Lordly Robe and Magepower Shishak
