***Official GTX 670 thread***

I'm new to this boost lark .... do the core speeds fluctuate during gaming, or are they pretty much static when stressed at 99/100%?

Temp depending they should stay at full boost while at 99%. Its games that use less than that either overall of due to v-sync where my problems lie.

Thats my little chat with Nvidia CS over with...

The 6x0 cards are supposed to clock up in steps dependant on core load and power load, the stutter can be directly related to v-sync as v-sync will hardly ever use 100% on full boost, so the clock speeds may fluctuate in the process. For example Fifa 12 has an artificial frame limit of 60 fps, first starting a match gives me 384mhz @ 20% usage, if a move to an area of the pitch with lots of players/action the clock jumps to 980mhz @ 11% usage(stock non-boost clock) and slide shows for a few seconds until it catches up.

They said that the Boost clock will never have an option to disable in favour of a static 3D clock.

They said the only other option would be to modify the vBIOS, but to do so the vendor would have to be the one to create this new BIOS, doing so if they wanted could reduce the boost steps (or set them all to the same speed). But thats not going to happen.

IF this gets sorted in another driver, they have no ETA on when that is likely to happen.

The future isn't looking very bright for my 670 unfortunately :(

Is everyone suffering from the "stages" of boost stutter though? or does it just seem to happen for some people in certain games, or all games?

It only happens to me in certain games, though I believe this may be related to the 'v-sync' induced stutter many are suffering from on the nvidia forums.

I'm just going to test more games now, see how many games I can replicate the fault in.

Make & Model: Asus 670 DirectCU II

I have a Silverstone FT02 (non Air penetrater fans)

My Motherboard Temp says 33c Amb temp is about 24c

Got my windforce 670 in the post today, all installed just now and ran heaven 3.0. Result ss below on stock clocks.

My sli'd gtx 470's for comparison.

470's clocked at my 24/7 settings of 750/1500/1674

Really impressed with how quiet the card is, max temp of 60c during heaven, (idles at 28c). In a case that isnt great for airflow, (bitfenix shinobi xl). The 470's hit 76-69c in heaven with an awful amount of noise. I suspect that the card would run even cooler in my Lian Li A70F case, much better airflow in it.

I was looking at sli my gtx 470's but one on its own was very noisy and hot - 2 must be awful. nice to see that a gtx 670 is as good as 2 gtx 470's though

The noise was pretty bad, particularly in this new case as it's airflow is bad. They were a bit quieter in the A70F, used a custom fan profile to keep noise temps down in that case, had to configure it a bit once i changed cases which resulted in more noise. Been trying out bf3, 1920x1200 all on ultra, hbao on and 2x msaa, lowest fps i seen was 53.

It is indeed quite a difference not hearing the whooshing noise of the 470's when gaming. Ive owned windforce cooled cards before and have been very impressed with how quiet they are. Now i can just about hear my cpu fans.
