Official GTX780 review thread

Just been having a play with mine and tbh I'm not that impressed.

Metro is not smooth @ 2560x1440 it stutters every now and again. Crysis 3 is also not smooth and feels sluggish.

I expected it to be slower than my 670 Sli but so far it seems it is just not enough for 1440p gaming on it's own. It feels no different to my 680 in all honesty.

Going to play a bit more..

I shall post some results up tonight!:)

Not sure how "official" my testing will be tho!:p

Should be interesting to see how a GTX 780 goes on X58, my GTX 690 on X58 puts some of the newer platforms to shame, it scored 700 more points in 3dmark11 than it did on X79.:D

It's not as quick as a Titan and does not seem as smooth.

It's consistently about 1/3 ish slower than 670 Sli and I think 1440p really needs that extra 1/3.

For me

Metro last light bench 1440p no SSSA max settings.

670 Sli - Average 45, Max 121.71, Min 9.94
GTX 780 - Average 34.7, Max 81.81, Min 9.71

Metro is very noticeably better on the 670 Sli. I imagine it is optimised well for SLi.

My current x58 setup has done me proud tbh. IMO no real need to upgrade the CPU for a while yet. Not found anything yet that 8 threads @ 4GHz can't chew up in short order!:)

I'm waiting for people to pop their titans and 780's on ebay as they begin to realise how uneccessary it is for these cards to run single monitor games. Of course the multi monitor users will absolutely love it, wish i had more monitors and money to own 2 of these 780's!

Read up 2 post's to find a single monitor user not happy with performance lol.

Interesting, very nasty min fps for both set ups there though !!

I use a single monitor.:)

I have just dug out my titan tests and the titan is only a few frames behind the 670 Sli. The 780 is quite a chunk behind. I was expecting near Titan performance from the 780 but I'm just not getting it.

I'm going to use my fresh install drive and see if that makes a difference.

I'm not convinced all is ok. I'm going to try a fresh install and see how that goes.

Yeah it seems odd that anything *could* be wrong but since your results are unusually poor, there must be something up!

Edit- I will also say, these 320.xx drivers are pretty awful as well. I've had no end of trouble with them on Win8 with all sorts of configurations.

I think the card is fine I just think for 1440p I need another one. I think I have got used to the smoothness 670 Sli gives.

1 GPU (even a Titan) is going to struggle in certain games at 1440. Even my two overclocked 7950s can't max every game never mind 1 780 or two 670s.

Just ran my 780 on Unigine Heaven 4.0 with everything maxed but have no idea where the screenshots are saved.

You need to use FRAPS to get a screenshot, if you press F12 in Heaven the benchmark will save it in "your files"\Heaven\Screenshots\*.tga

Unfortunately TGA files are a pain to open, it is easier to use FRAPS.
