Yes this is the official licenced by bungie Halo Reach beta thread ™

Beta starts on the 3rd of may which is a bank holiday Monday for us. You'll need a copy of ODST and the beta will be accessed through the games main menu

Tempted to pick up a cheap copy of ODST if this is any good. I take it all copies get access or do they have to be early ones or something?

Yep all copies of ODST. No code - just have the disk in the machine. Grab a cheap copy by all means. I just got a new copy of ODST for £14 delivered, Just wanted a pop at the beta but I'll probably have a quick blast on the campaign as well.

I really enjoyed it to be honest. Wasn't too long and pretty action packed.

is that true? so that means i can get a preowned copy and have access to beta?? where did you get yours for £14?

Yes its true, Yes you can buy preowned and have access to the beta. There's no code to use up as access is simply via EVERY odst disk.

I got mine from Shopto...for £14.85 or something like that.

"This time around, they reveal to us the four (!) maps that will be playable in the Halo Reach Beta. That's certainly a nice improvement over the Halo 3 Beta's one map."

Didn't the Halo 3 beta have 3 maps

Yep I had problems with that, reload the page and click on the play button as soon as you can, it'll work at some point.

Cheers, finally got it going. Buggy player today!

Anyway, I cannot wait for this! Halo 3 is still excellent fun online imo and this looks like its going to be just as good. I was a bit apprehensive at first re: the loadouts. Its an important feature of other MP games atm but not one I ever thought Halo would benefit from. Thinking about it a bit, at least it will stop rushers heading for the nearest BR etc. Simliarly scrapping dual wield is a bit odd, but if theres one thing I absolutely trust Bungie to do that is to balance the game.

I'd really like some classic maps remade for this please, I'm sure there will be some great new ones but imo the like of......
Blood Gulch (Halo CE)
Sidewinder (Halo CE)
Hang Em High (Halo CE)
Lockout (H2)
Ascension (H2)
Midship (H2)
Ivory Tower (H2)
Foundation (H2)
The Pit (H3)
High Ground (H3)

Should stay. I really think H2 had the best MP experience of the lot, it was only XBL's infancy which held it back IMO.

Anyway, can't wait im sure it will be a top notch game as per usual!

So many people are going to hate Reach too. It's going to be the worst, most generic shooter for them, for the 4th Halo in a row.

I love it :D

I'm glad they have added in the option to choose your own spawning weapon, since there were so many times in Halo 3 where we would be put into a huge map like Sandtrap and spawn with a god damn AR  So unless I was one of the people to get one of the few BR's laying around I was pretty much screwed.

Again I'm glad they have chosen to get rid of this too, since it just made some of the weapons useless and completely under powered, it was a gimmick and nothing more. A good example was the Halo 2 needler, it was a piece of crap whether you were using them on their own or when dual wielding. Can you even remember the last time someone killed you while dual wielding? Everyone just rushes for the power weapons or the BR, so IMO they made the correct choice in getting rid of dual wielding because it will mean every weapon can now be balanced properly.

I do sort of agree now, for the same reasons. I just hope we dont get into a crazy system of perks and extras ala CoD.

Good point, dual wielded weapons really werent balanced unless they were dual wielded. But still, a good dual pair like plasma pistol/human pistol was ruddy deadly in H2.
Like I say, It seems odd to me that they're removing dual wield, but I'm not sure I'll particularly miss it. It did detract somewhat from the grenade centric gameplay of Halo CE. Regardless, I know Bungie will get it right :D.

still have my copy of odst on the shelf. Looking forward to it actually as halo is a game we always seem to jump back too for a laugh

There was something really nice about destroying someones shield with a discharge from the plasma pistol then switching weapons to finish people off in CE.

As for the class perks thing, you know bungie - they'll keep it solid and simple :)
