the abit ip35-e I got back in 2007 that held my 2180 and currently my q9550 may finally get a retirement. done bloody well overclocked for best part of 5 years

Not for those on first gen i5/i7, sandy/ivy any.
However for those on core 2 or phenom, then Haswell will be a very nice upgrade.
Will this finally make it worthwhile upgrading from q9550.....?
Some good points here and again I feel we are expecting too much. It kind of feels like tablets/laptops will see a greater benefit than us desktop users. A predicted 10%~ increase on IVY isn't so bad and I don't give 2 hoots about the IGPU...
Moore's law dictates that transistors double every two year, not performance.
Yes but there's also a line showing performance has been doubling since we've been using hand cranks in ancient times to what we have now (wasn't there a recent discovery of an automated sundial from ancient greece classed as first ever computer?). We may stall in a few years but then a new system 'post silicon computing' will catch back up, 30 times faster in 30 years? Probably. Hence computing power doubles every 2 years or whatever will still be in effect.
I still use my i7 9xx PC and for most things there is no difference compared to my SB-E 3960X.
I will still be using the i7 9xx long after haswell has been and gone.
Whats the eta on Haswell?
It would be amazing if I could stay with my i7 920, through yet another generation of CPU, and not suffer for it. That would make my 920 the best value for money bit of computer hardware I've every purchased. But the upgrade itch is getting pretty strong now, by the time Haswell arrives I'll probably need to be sedated.
I had a 920 but it needed way too much voltage and ran too hot at 4 Ghz
I swapped it to a 980 instead of getting SB, and now I has 6 cores sat at 4.38 Ghz and they are nice and cool. Probably gonna last me till 2025 lol.
I heard one rumour that it had slipped to 3rd quarter next year, but another one said that all is well and to expect an end of 1st quarter/start of 2nd quarter release; personally my money is on April.
Looking forward to hearing some more about these, as long as it's some kind of performance step from the Bridges I'll be happy enough. I can't believe first gen i7 is almost 4 years old now. Not that long ago a 4 year old PC would normally be considered slow but the old i7 920s are still more than enough performance for most people.

Let's hope they don't use internal heatsinks n cheap as chips thermal paste
Who gives two shinny stools about power use.
I wanna know does it cold bug!!!
