***Official Intel Haswell Thread***

It puzzles my why Intel's top of the range 'premium' 6 core processors are running on Ivy Bridge based technology? Is there a reason for that as it seems pointless to buy Ivy-Bridge based tech 6 months after Haswell's out. Surely in that timeframe Intel could have easily developed a 6-core Haswell processor

I suspect a Haswell 4770 will be a much better proposition than the Ivy-E 4960 unless you REALLY want a 6-core CPU.

I know I'm confused to. Software that I use like Hitfilm like to use more cores so 6 would be useful. The problem is they use diff motherboards as well.

One reason is that LGA2011 and LGA1366 before it are designed as server sockets, the enthusiast i7's on them are basically overclockable Xeons (though not with all the features of a true Xeon ofc). Its tried and tested with any bugs ironed out, unlike Haswell.

Also its not going to be anything like 6 months, IB-E is slated for a Q3 launch and Q3 starts in 2 months, the are already IB-E engineering samples doing the rounds and EVGA is about to launch a new IB-E ready X79 board.

Gaming and overclocking mostly.

In that case, unless you're desperate for a hex-core CPU, I'd go Haswell. Or at least wait for reviews to arrive before hitting the buy button on anything. SB-E and Ivy-E are pretty much known quantities and won't be disappearing in a hurry.

If Haswell has the overclocking prowess that rumors suggest, then it should be a good one for tinkering and gaming.

Just out of interest which rumours suggest Haswell can clock really well??

I hope it can. What sort of clocks have people got their IB systems to? And under what cooling?

Apparently Haswell will be a good OC processor, but still has some of the heat problems Ivy Bridge has, perhaps less so though.

So I'm imagining it will be inbetween SB and IB for OC.

8 Pack i bet same ones that said IVYs will clock very high.
But they forgot to mention u need to take cpu apart and change thermal compound inside to get good clocks LOL

I claim no special knowledge, neither is there anything I can link for you. But I do however have acquaintances that make a plausible claim to have seen it. Much like you may have seen it.

We'll find out shortly either way, hence my advice to wait for reviews.

So when you tested Haswell at Gigabyte it didn't clock well? :P

I never said that I asked for the source. I have several Haswell and boards from several manufacturers. I have had them for around a month now including all revisions of the chip.

I have not commented at all on the clocking I just was interested in the source.

I do my own reviews ;)

HOW DOES IT CLOCK?!?

The reddit AMA with an Intel engineer said that if you're into overclocking then haswell is for you.

I know, but why ask unless maybe you've not had a great experience yourself. ;)

Well maybe you should comment about it now. ;)

I am not commenting!!! LOL!!

I just wanted the source to read what they was doing and on what board.
