***Official Intel Haswell Thread***

Coming from an i7-2600k am I likely to be 'impressed' by Haswell?

I don't really 'need' to upgrade but I want to change my motherboard and it seems pointless not doing it all.

That would be more of an side step than an upgrade.

I'm upgrading to Haswell from my i7 920, which I've always kept at stock. Would be nice to have proper USB 3.0 support due to the external HDD I have and SATA III for my 500gb Samsung 840 SSD I ordered last week.

Or you could overclock your i7 920 and buy an add-on controller card to give you usb 3.0 and Sata III. Shouldn't cost no more than about £30.

Much cheaper option than changing your whole setup :)

Without a doubt I 100% agree with you but I've never been into overclocking my CPU's, always kept them at stock. Also due to my PCI-E sound card and xfire setup I no longer have any spare slots for an add on card.

IIRC the only PCI-E SATA-III cards that won't break the bank are garbage Marvell based ones that have less performance than the Intel SATA-II ports on X58. If you actually want a SATA-III card that works you have to fork out so much it would be more sensible to just go Z77/Z87 anyway.

Ha thats fair enough, was just a thought of how you could save some money maybe.

You can still get good money for your i7 920 cpu/motherboard to put towards upgrading.

Thats what I'm going to do, put them up on the members market next weekend for sale and use the money for my haswell build.

I'm not sure whether I'll go for a new haswell build or see if the prices of ivy bridge processors drop, specifically the i5-3570k

It'll be a matter of price/reviews

This is what I'm thinking, it would be nice to have Haswell and the new socket, but I wouldn't pay a significant premium for it.

A good price and 5 gig on air could sway me :D Some serious saving to do.

So are we going get a revision 2 motherboard release 3 months after launch?

Motherboard manufacturers should be receiving the updated C2 revision from 15th July, although this could be delayed if Intel has not got rid of their C1 inventory.
I don't know how much longer it would take for motherboards to hit shelves after this date.

end of the line processors and memory tends to get crazy expensive as its no longer manufactured

the only thing you might see dropping are amd prices
