***Official Intel Haswell Thread***

I tell you what, Haswell seems to be a damn good option for HTPC and laptops. Not only that, but looking at Z87 (just had a look at the Asus Sabertooth), 6 x SATA 6Gb/s....That's awesome. No longer need to invest in RAID expansion card to get a decent RAID-5 setup comprising of 4+ drives. This i'm interested in.

Also, keep flicking between this thread and the "Review" thread and getting confused. Why are there two threads discussing the same thing now?

Well when they first started they weren't I guess. This thread is meant to be about discussion of Haswell, the other was about the reviews.

Yep, its the onboard TRIM support for raid that floats my boat.

What sort of improvement can i expect from my incoming 4770K over my aging i7 920 D0 Step Bloomfield chip, i guess less power consumption, vastly superior speeds, and improvements in chip architecture from 4 year old tech??

As by looking at some tests the Haswell is faster (or as fast) at 4.5Ghz than an ivy on 4.7-8Ghz, so this has to be a massive leap for my Boomfield right??......i would say even at the stock clocks (3.5Ghz) the Haswell is going to be much faster than my i7 Bloomfield at 4Ghz??

Bit disappointed with some of the reviews but still a nice leap from my i7 860 which then moves on to the parents pc.

The Z87 Sabertooth has to the the board for me. Just not sure if to water cool or get a Corsair H110. Decisions :(

I think its pretty clear that for anyone with a decent clocking SB Haswell isn't worth the outlay and certainly not for anyone already on IB. For those of us on first generation core i processors the choice is a bit more difficult. Native SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.0, power consumption etc are decent bonuses when coupled in with what I estimate to be a rough doubling in performance if you can get to around 4.5-4.6GHz. For gaming purposes I can't justify the upgrade and think a gpu upgrade would be better for the majority of people. Me personally, i spend most o the time on Flight Simulator X so a cpu upgrade is probably worth considering.

I'm just waiting for more motherboard reviews now, at the moment my choice is the G1 sniper M5...i wont use more than 1 gpu and it seems to have the rest of the features of the full size version, but at half the price.

Just ordered my new 4670k with a gigabyte D3HP motherboard and 8gb Patriot ram. Should be a considerable upgrade over the q6600. Followed by a gtx 770 or 780 next month :D. Not bad considering you get a free game with the cpu and free cooler with the mobo!
