Is the M5 still faster than the M4 Pro and even the M4 Max?

My M4 Pro 16 inch is only a few months old but I knew this was coming and pleased the speculators were correct in saying tandem OLED would be late next year.

Arg I just got a 14" M4!!!! And I'm using it for local LLM which this new one seems to excel at. Sigh.
 
so looking at the uplift the m5 is going to be fairly close to the m4 pro lite chip in speed (10/10 vs 12/16). I can't quite believe the 3.5x speed increase in llm use, it's probably for very specific use cases and not just generally running a 8B model in lm studio

Had it for 2 months unfortunately.

Never mind, still a great device, just a bit gutted that I could have got an M5 for the same price and a short wait!

Did you pay the same price though? I got my M4 16’’ about £250 cheaper than the Apple Store price brand new. I’m willing to bet that same discount won’t be available on the M5 version, at least not initially.
