Official Magazines - WTF!!!

I'm not usually one to go for the official magazines, and especially now that you can download demos, but I have just been flicking through the Xbox 360 handbook which came with the Official Xbox Magazine. I have to say that I have never read such a load of conceited, fanboyish sony bashing in a mag!

Are all official mags as biased and fanboyish as this one?

There were quite a few more derogatory comments like this too. It made me realise why I like Edge and Computer & Videogames.

It has always been the same. OPS2 mag didn't try and flame the xbox. But OXM always ried to have comments about the PS2 and i have even stopped buying OX360M cos it is rather bad.
Is funny about the official xbox magazine talking about someone elses hardware breaking. Oh the irony lol

Many moons back I used to buy the OPS2 only a few issues, the only mag that had demos on a disc, wasn't bad. I wouldn't bother buying any now-a-days.

The only official mags I've really bought was the Nintendo one when I was about 10, and the PlayStation one pre-PS2 days. The former was fine when I was that age and the latter was actually a quality read.
Now I never buy official mags for the simple reason that I can't stand the competitor bashing that they are all known for - in fact, the two mags that I subscribe to are both multi-formats; Edge and GamesTM.

All the stuff you read in an official xbox 360 mag can be had online. The free and downloadable 360 e-zine is far better in you want reviews etc.

Actually, I remember OPS2 ripping into the 360 one hell of a lot.

But it's always going to be like that with official mags, buy GameTM, at least it's unbiased.

I used to occasinaly read Official Nintendo Magazine a few years back and it wasn't really that biased just a very poor read compared to NGC/N64 Magazine

I also used to read Sega Saturn Magazine which was hilariously biased but also very good and had some really good CDs (Christmas NiGHTS [entire game], Panzer Dragoon Saga [Disc 1 of 4]).

TBF i stopped reading OPS2 quite a bit before the xbox 360 did. But iirc they never ripped into the xbox or gamecube the years i read it before then.

i just get 360. quality mag, with little or no competitor bashing. it's a loooong time since i read and official comic...er, i mean mag.

I wonder how official mags will survive in future generations because lets face it no one brought the official PS2 or Xbox magazines for their high quality non biased journalism everyone brought them for the demos!

Now with marketplace and the PS3 version of marketplace the demos mean nothing now, why spend £6 on a demo disc and crap mag when you can download them for free?

I remember reading that the official playstaion mag was quoted saying that there was a lack of quality games for the ps3.

well thats hardly news! There's not many decent games out for the PS3 now but then it's not been out long. Given time things will change.

They probably do it to endear their readers to them, a lot of console owners like to hear they've made the right choice after all.

Already started killing them mate. Sony stopped official PS magazine in the states to get people to use the PS store for demos.

They have never made any secret of that fact. The complaint is the fact they are just publishing nonsense.

I bought the Official Playstation one the other day just to find out a little more on the upcoming launch releases for PS3 - interesting read taken with quite a bit of salt lol
