Hi all,
Joe Wieders Olympia Weekend
23rd to 26th September
24th to 25th September for the good stuff!
Watch the live stream from the 24th here
Seeing as the interest for bodybuilding is obviously quite strong in here, I figured it might be good to have a discussion for this years Mr. O.
This years competitors:
Alves, Troy USA
Alvisi, Mark USA
Anthony Jr., Melvin USA
Bautista, Francisco Spain
Cutler, Jay USA
Fankhouser, Erik USA
Freeman, Toney USA
Greene, Kai USA
Haley, Marcus USA
Heath, Phil USA
Jackson, Dexter USA
Jackson, Johnnie USA
James, Dennis USA
Martinez, Victor Dominican Republic
Mishin, Evgeny Russia
Nunn, Edward USA
Obiad, Issa Ibrahim UAE
Piotrkowicz, Robert Poland
Richardson, Craig USA
Rockel, Ronny Germany
Warren, Branch USA
White, Ben USA
Wilmore, Bill USA
Winklaar, Roelly Netherlands
Wolf, Dennis Germany
Yamagishi, Hidetada Japan
Last years standings:
1. Jay Cutler
2. Branch Warren
3. Dexter Jackson
4. Kai Greene
5. Phil Heath
6. Victor Martinez
7. Ronny Rockel
8. Toney Freeman
9. Hidetada Yamagishi
10. Moe El Moussawi
11. Melvin Anthony (tie)
11. Silvio Samuel (tie)
13. Gustavo Badell
14. Dennis James
15. Markus Ruhl
16. Troy Alves
16. Darrem Charles
16. Martin Kjellstrom
16. Bill Wilmore
16. Dennis Wolf
16. Joel Stubbs
16. Michael Kefalianos
16. Ahmad Haidar
1. Jay Cutler
2. Branch Warren
3. Dexter Jackson
Last years winner was Jay Cutler who absolutely trounced the competition, finishing 31 points ahead on the scorecards. Second was Branch Warren who surprised everyone. Branches success was probably due to Jays condition and size as Branch is the other mass monster of the bunch so looks good stood next to Jay. Third was the previous winner Dexter Jackson.
This year however it could all be different. Jay is going to have to bring at least the same level of conditioning he had last year to even stand a chance of retaining the Sandow trophy. The champ is always the favourite to win if they turn up 100%. But this year has seen the other big names improve dramatically
The year started with the Arnold Classic, and Kai retaining his trophy
The top 3 consisted of Kai, Phil Heath and Branch Warren. Forgetting Branch for a second as I don't see him as a serious competitor this year, Kai and Phil have come on leaps and bounds since last year. Phil finished 5th at the 09 Olympia despite being sick for the entire weekend which is impressive. I honestly think this years Mr. O is between these two
I'm personally routing for Phil as he just looks so impressive. Sure he's not as big as some of the other guys, but to me he's what bodybuilding should be all about. Aesthetics before size. And no one looks better than him. It's just a question of what the judges want from the competitors this year
