*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

I honestly think that is the problem with it, Other than being more polished it looks the same as the DS and Wii Mario games. Maybe they should have taken a slightly different art direction to make it stand out?

Agreed. I've never been a fan of the nsmb look and this looked like more of the same. A fresh art style and a new name - maybe even a special console bundle - may have made some difference. Nintendo aren't doing themselves many favours.

its zelda though, unfortunately because of the name they can sell at 40 and get away with it, it should be around 30 though.

How long can Zelda and Mario stay relevant for? The new kids are playing tablets and iOS games and won't hold Zelda in that same special place as older gamers. If new Zelda's and Mario's are not as good I think it will lose its pulling power.

never realised n64 was so popular. it did have some all time great games.

Not that surprising, lots of kids at school (back in my day! :p) had one. The travesty was the Gamecube, so many good games and it just never had quite the same success. Some of my best gaming experiences were on the GC ala:

Windwaker
Luigi's Mansion
F-Zero GX
Viewtiful Joe
Paper Mario
Pikmin 2
Animal Crossing
Eternal Darkness
Mario Kart
Mario Party
Metroid Prime
Super Monkey Ball 2
Tales of Symphonia

I think the WiiU could go either way, it could go like the 3DS and start slow and gain momentum when parents see the price of things like XBone and PS4 and there are games which will make it worthwhile or it could meander along with slow sales but some good first party games coming out.

I'm hanging onto mine but mainly for a few key games like Wind Waker.

When I try to decide on the best home console it always comes down to the snes vs n64 - and the n64 usually wins. A proper gamers console :)

I'm with you there, mate - the GC had some great games :) (although I hope you meant Monkey Ball - my fave game on the system - and not the travesty that was the sequel!)

N64 was an amazing console. I loved the GC also and bought almost all of the first party stuff. Still have them both and all the games too!

We really need a new Pilotwings.

I still find it odd they opted to remake the Wind Waker of all the games, if I recall Wind Waker was the biggest flop in terms of newly released console sales, although it may have recovered somewhat later. But I do know they scrapped the project they had lined up as a result of Wind Waker sales. Wind Waker still remains a rather dividing game for the franchise...at least it wasn't Zelda II that got a remake.

I'm surprised they didn't opt for a remake of Majoras Mask or hold OOT back for the Wii U.

I greatly preferred the Wind Waker to recent Zelda games (Twilight Princess etc). I thought the graphics style suited it, the story was good and the gameplay varied. More please! Also it actually did pretty well sales wise:

Ahh it did improve as time went on, I will be honest. I didn't bother with Wind Waker I played OOT and Majoras Mask and when I saw Wind Waker...well I didn't touch another Zelda game until Twilight Princess. I also skipped Skyward Sword as my console died a couple of weeks before hand.

I'm hoping to pick a Wii U up later this year, but I'll be getting it with Wind Waker HD and Skyward Sword I imagine. I was hoping for a Majoras Mask remake, but those sales numbers pretty much spell it out. I just hope they go for the look and feel of that Zelda demo they had last year with the newer title.

The Wind Waker was beautiful and sublime.

There's not many games I'll say that about.

Agreed. Aesthetically I can't think of anything better. Nintendo dropping that visual style in favour of the blurry brown mess we got in Princess was a disappointment on par with cancelling Firefly!

Just complete Day 6 in my Pikmin playthrough...loving the variety of the levels and the Pikmin themselves are just sooooooooooo adorable!

The gameplay I'm finding very tactful and trying to get as much as you can crammed into a day is so intense.

Throw in some just beautiful graphics and it truly is a winner...and to think I never played the first 2 :O

It really is frickin awesome. Genuinely one of the most enchanting games I've ever played and I've been playing games for 32 years.
