*****Official NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 Thread*****

Waiting on my gtx 570 to be delivered, can't wait it's been awhile since I've had an Nvidia card, last one was a 6600gt golden sample :P
Had terrible driver issues with it , 100% cpu usage when playing dvd's, still Im hoping things are better now ^^

why would them being in short supply drive the price down? i don't understand that logic. i mean, they will come down i think, but i doubt to anything under £250 so to the people who say they can pick them up at the price, that is a great deal!

you don't want to know what i picked mine up for.. :D

:D, Exactly....read it again I don't think I worded it that badly !

same here but my card is a 9800
i spent the last week waiting for all the new cards to come out. reading all the post's and last night i thought sod it 570 is the 1 for me...........

I'm pretty much sold on the gtx570 as without a huge price or performance difference between it and the 6970 I'm more inclined to go with nvidia.

One thing that does concern me is the pretty large memory size difference between them.
1.25Gb against 2Gb seems like a big gap, yet there is little performance difference. Is this just down to nvidia using the memory better, or is it just nothing really takes advantage of it... yet?

I realise this could be a contentious question after the raging 460 768Mb vs 1024Mb 'discussion' so I'm happy to start a new thread about it if it's felt necessary

only really need to worry about the mem difference at high resolutions like 2560x1600

Exactly what I thought mate.

I was gutted today though. I was out when DPD came knocking with my msi 570 this morning :( bladdy uni!

About the memory difference- what res do you play at? Only need to worry about that in very high res situations to be honest :)

1920x1200 and have no plans for multi monitoring it any time soon, no plans for SLI either.
Seems like the 570 will make me a happy boy, will probably go for the Asus or EVGA card (Missed the TWO offer on the MSI) but is the mild overclock on the EVGA worth the extra £18ish?

Unless Nvidia drop the price, which Gibbo has said is unlikely to happen anytime soon, then it will only go up as vat is going to add a few extra quid. plus with the 6970 not being what many people hoped it would be, i dont see the need to for nvidia to really drop it that much.

Well just got home and set it all up:

I know all of them are the same but MSI seem to have got their game together recently, glad i got one rather than a lesser name tbh. took some quick pics with my iphone:

I know cables need sorting, but just wanted to get it in and make sure its working all ok. Loads of room in the Cosmos. Very sleek, very nice. Gotta say system is running pretty sweet, only added SSDs in RAID a couple of weeks back - system really flies :)

Aye, Gibbos thread here, suggests they are only going up and it's his job to know, so I see no reason to doubt him.

Bah, ummed and arrrred too long and missed out on the TWO, now you're just rubbing it in :-)

Not that I question Gibbo personally or anything, but since he does work for this [business] website well... doesn't it make sense he would WANT people to buy 570's now at higher prices, not later for less? And potentially from other places?
Kind of like how they made a big deal of the 5870 being around £230 for a limited time, even though every supplier had lowered their price to that, and even less now.

This is a business after all, money talks...
But enough from me on business ethics, I just need to wait and see what happens.

I always use the Graphics card hierachy chart on toms hardware.
It's not updated for the latest batch of AMD and nVidia cards yet, but a 570 performs about the same as a 480. Tom's very sensible recommendation is not to upgrade unless the new card is 3 tiers higher, in their chart the 480 is 4 higher.

I'm doing the same thing right now, except my 280 is on the verge of death so I don't have much of a choice.

However, the overriding rule is always that if your card is running everything you want it to and you're happy, why upgrade?
Of course it also depends what res you are running at, your CPU etc. If your CPU is maxed out feeding a 280 you won't see any benefit by upgrading.

To be quite honest, I would have placed the 480 2 tiers up from the 280 - After all, it is roughly twice the performance, and the GTX 285/460 are only a minor improvement over it. I have been debating going with a 570 myself (my GFX upgrade mantra is "double the performance or GTFO" :D), but like you say, I really do not need it for anything at the moment. There are a few criteria I will be using for the eventual upgrade:

1. A batch of games has been released over a period of time since my last upgrade - 5 or 6 of which I have interest in, which my current card cannot handle.

2. I have finished all my current games. Right now I have quite a few Steam sale leftovers like Mass Effect/Bioshock to get into, which my GTX 280 can handle easily.

3. There are upcoming or newly released games which my new GFX purchase will definitely be able to max out. Imagine when BF3 or Rage come out, if a 570 will not cut it and there are newer cards coming out that will. That would be quite disappointing. I would rather wait for these games to be released and benched before putting money down.

The other benefit is that over time the card prices will drop as new models are introduced (AMD will eventually release 1 GB models of its 69xx cards at lower price points - how will Nvidia pricing respond?). Not to say there is anything wrong with upgrading at the moment, but these are definitely mitigating factors.

Of course if my card is dying, then all the above is moot. Out of interest why is your GTX 280 reaching EOL?

Out of interest why is your GTX 280 reaching EOL?

It started with the dreaded purple screen of death, I RMA'd it and got a replacement and then my replacement starts doing the same and BFG went out of business.

I've oven baked my card which has breathed new life into it, but it now just ramps up to 105 degrees and stays there. I bought a gelid aftermarket cooler which has reduced the speed the temperature increases, and is much quieter so I can at least use it, but it's really only a matter of time running at 100+ that this card is going to bite the dust.

Also I'm glad I held off ordering a card as the EVGA has had a nice price cut today, which I'm certainly inclined to go for.
