to trap a soul you need the spell to do it. Its part of the alteration list of spells so if you dont have it the mages guild will sell it. You need to find soul stones to hold a captured soul in which then has a certain charge depending on the creature you capture. Cast the spell on the creature then kill it to capture it, then USE the stone in your misc items to bring up the recharge tab and choose the enchanted item you want to refill

Varla stones are basically charged soulstones

An important addition is that you need to kill the creature you use the soul trap on within the time limit of the spell. So if your soul trap spell only lasts 5 seconds, get the enemy down to near death, cast the spell, and kill it within 5 seconds.

Varla stones can be reused to recharge every magical item you have. Very handy now I have a magical sword and magical bow :)

Methinks that'll be my first alteration to my sword in the Arcane University :)

I got my enchant from an ascendant sigil stone from closing an oblivion gate. Another one gave me +40 magika to anything as well lol

Has anyone done the go fish quest yet?I've collected the 12 rumare slaughterfish scales and returned to the bloke in Weye who requires them, but when I speak to him he just keeps wittering on about needing the scales, there doesn't seem to be any option in the conversation tree to tell him I've got them and to give them to him,am I missing something here chaps?

I've done that quest and didn't have that problem, very odd. It was one of the first quests I did and can't remember the dialogue but I think there was just an option to ask him about the fish?

Sorry that's not much help :(

When I click on the option to ask him about the fish,he just gives me the same dialogue he gave me to initially explain the quest, strange this, took me ages to find all those bloody fish. :(

I have this quest but couldn't see any fish so I left it. Are they just in random bodies of water? Also, are you sure it was only twelve?

Are you sure you have 12 ? I've just done this quest (the green pointer points you too each fish)

What does the pointer on the map display you too ?

The diagloue to finish this quest, i never had to ask him about any thing, i went up to him, he asked me how the quest was going, i then replied done e.t.c and he gave me the reward.

Happy days.

I've deffo got 12,not sure whats going on,I got a good number of them from the main body of the lake about 8,I then found a cave on the side of the lake that if you ventured all the way into had a couple of pools with 2 or so slaughterfish in each, killed them and got the scales, this gave me a count of 12.

Maybe its because I didn't get them all from the main part of the lake or something.

sounds like it, make it your active quest and follow the waypoint on your compass, if it points to the lake then you need to finish off those, failing that, try to get rid of one (eat it or drop it) and re pick them up :)

*Rather theatrical spoiler*

Good grief! Has anyone found the ruins of Miscarcand? They're somewhere just off the road inbetween Skingrad and Kvatch. Just sneaked through killing zombies, goblins and skeletons to finally retrieve a Varla stone, but it continued. After a couple more rooms I found myself in front of a pedestal with a giant smoking stone on a plinth - it's a Great Welkynd Stone!

I grabbed it, but unfortunately there was a rather abrupt grinding of stone on stone and zombies starting piling in. The door to the quickest way out of the chamber had shut so the only other way was back the way I came... right into the face of the undead King of Miscarcand, who promptly floated toward me and did away with me in a single nod of his staff. I tried about six or seven times to get past him or fight him - each time he either smote me down, or drained every attribute I had, paralysing me to become zombie food.

In a last ditch attempt I downed an Athleticism potion and scarpered for the door behind him... it's locked with a very hard lock... which I only broke one lockpick on! Then I ran for the surface.

I've no idea how you're meant to defeat the guy but he literally raised his staff and I dropped down dead a number of times. He must have some serious firepower and my spells just seemed to bounce off him. I was slightly disheartened to find that the Great Welkynd Stone is worth zip! Clearly it needs to be identified by an expert or something, or maybe it's part of a quest I've yet to find. Either way, it was an exhilirating half hour!

Not going to ruin the story, but is anyone doing or done the Dark Brotherhood quest?

Have you managed to do the quest with 'Mother', 'Lighthouse', 'Lucky Lady' and learnt your fate ;)

WOW! Game has just taken on a new level now, it's a gothic horror!! Blood, guts, betrayed, murder, love and necrophylia (well, if she's lucky ;))

i found Miscarcand but after entering and getting attacked constantly by relativly hard enemys i decided to give it a miss, im glad i did now.... ill pop back soon when i feel confident

also: *** any tips on how to defeat the 3 prisoners in the arena as ive tried everything i can and its frustrating me, all the others seemed relativly easy but now these 3 keep knocking me down and the best ive had so far is one dead before i get killed.... even with adrenaline

KEEP THE STONE AT ALL COSTS. I wont say why but you'll thank me later (dont sell it or give it away or anything lol - KEEP IT)

Has anyone done the Hunter's Run side quest? I'm trapped in the fort, but I can't for the life of me kill the 2nd hunter.. lowest I've managed to get him is 50% health without dying (4 attempts so far).. do I just suck badly, or should I be higher than level 3 doing this quest? :)
