So back to normal. Wii sells out, 360 holds steady and the PS3 is still selling very badly. Those Americans can't seem to get enough Halo 3, love a good strum, and that's a very bad figure for R&C and not what it deserved. Discuss.

Poor PS3. :(

We're now getting to the point where realistically it's hard to see it catching up. Sony could well take the kind of beating they've become so used to dishing out, and it's hard not to think they've only got themselves to blame.

Interesting to see the sales for this month with the PS3 price drop included, one thing to note that about 75% of total 360 sales are in the US. The PS3 saw a 25% ish increase in sales, the Wii a 30% increase and the 360 a decrease of 14%, prob down to the amazing numbers for September though. According to a few places the PS3 is now a couple of 100K above the 360 in this stage in its life, although PAL regions has only been on sale since end of March. The Non Us figures for the consoles for last week are:
Japan Others Total
PS3 63K 73.6K 136.6K
360 6.9K 54.1K 61K
Wii 32.8K 84.4K 117.2K

Ps3 numbers was high in Japan as the price cut happened on the last day of figures and the new white 40GB PS3 was out, prob be a bit higher than normal next week and then back to the 19-25K a week its been doing for last couple of months.

Got to remember October was a 4 week month compared to last months 5 week one so the 360s sales have actually kept pretty constant.

The MS press release
# For the month of October, Xbox 360 led in total revenue with $354 million compared to $246 million for Wii and $116 million for PS3.

# Xbox 360 software revenue at retail surpassed that of Wii and PS3 combined.

# For the month of October according to NPD, Xbox 360 software represented 54 percent of total software sales (at $162 million dollars) for this generation, compared to 30 percent for Wii and 16 percent for PS3.

# Xbox 360 was home to seven out of the top 10 rated games through the end of October according to Metacritic.

# Of all 3rd party U.S. software revenue in October, Xbox 360 generated more than double that of the PS3 and Wii. Xbox 360 weighs in at 57 percent with $130 million, compared to Wii with 28 percent and PS3 at 15 percent.

# PS3 and Wii combined had one third party title in the top ten console title list for the month, while Xbox 360 weighed in with 2. Since November, third party partners have seen their titles hit the top ten 29 times for Xbox 360, compared to 2 for PS3 and 2 for Wii.

# In last week's earnings announcement from Electronic Arts, Xbox 360 represented 50 percent ($218 million) of their total revenue during the third quarter. In fact, EA titles on Xbox 360 outperformed those same titles on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii and DS combined.

Impressive.

Also heard that the 360 has already outsold the xbox1 in Japan in its entire lifespan and done it in 2yrs. Yeah not that great considering how bad xbox1 sales was in Japan but not bad either considering the Japanese market favours Sony and Nintendo, looks like MS constant pressure is finally paying off at present to some degree. Still shocking figures for the PS3 considering how new the console is compared to a 2yr old console (xbox360)., but i do expect things to change for Sony as their own games appear and other price drops during 2008.

Reminds me abit of the tortoise and the hare story

Impressive US figures from MS, but they really need to improve in Japan (if they possibly can, brand loyalty is very strong over there) if they want to be considered the top console worldwide. Not quite sure how they can manage it, but if it's possible, I'm sure they'll figure it out.

got to laugh how absymally xbox sells in Japan.

MS should just concentrate on us people who know a good games console when we see one ;)

I am 90% certain that the PS3 price drop in the states (the 40gb model + spider-man 3 blu-ray), began on 1st November ish. So I don't think the USA figures reflect this, until next month.

Obviously the above figures in the above article are estimates until NPD report this time next month.

WTF? Why is R&C so low? That's not good for them. That's probably the biggest release on PS3 this year.

I think the official street date was only October 23rd 9although some shops broke that), so it is possible it may be better reflected in next month's figures.

I doubt it is the biggest PS3 release this year though, I can see Uncharted outselling it and also Haze or even COD4. Maybe even UT3 if it makes end of this year release (which it might, for USA only).

Just how is the PSP still selling so many? There's been hardly any decent games come out for a long long time, i'm still playing Everybodys Golf which was a launch game. Sony really need to get their act together and realise that people want games not poxy GPS attachments.

Also the new Dynasty Warriors just came out in Japan, and sold something like 180k, despite being a PS3-only title, so it's quite possible a few people bought the console at the same time.

I believe the 40gb PS3 was released on November 2nd, so obviously the OP's figures don't take that into account as they are for October.

As msmalls said, the PS3 has outsold the Wii this week in Japan for the first time ever, Here's the complete list of hardware sales in Japan for the week ending November 11:
  • DS - 78,884
  • PSP - 58,964
  • PS3 - 55,924
  • Wii - 34,546
  • PS2 - 9,043
  • Xbox 360- 5,817
  • GB Micro - 708
  • GBASP - 211
  • GC - 69
  • GBA - 4
Edit: Forgot to mention PS3 sales have almost trippled in the good old US of A since the price reduction.
