Does anyone else find the ChessMentor stuff a lot easier than the tactics or is this saying something about my strengths and weaknesses as a player i.e. I need to spend more time on the Tactics Trainer.
 
Popped into the local second books shops today and got a ton of chess books - got an interesting one on the Smith-Morra. Hence I am now going to get waiting for e5 c5 to try out my new moves! A great number of people I play seem to love their Sicilians and I would rather get that psychological blow in of taking them away from their favoured openings without having to play the English (which is my current attempt at dictating the battlefield) which I am finding seems to not have too much momentum behind it and also always seems to end up in some transposition to a d4 opening anyway. (and yes I am taking this new found hobby far too seriously already ...). Whilst the Smith-Morra is well received and seems to offered by good players as a good method I can't help but notice that this Smith chap doesn't seem to do too well with it at all - maybe that is down to his middle and end game play - who knows.
 
smith morra looks fun, but I don't think it's played much at top-class chess because it offers white no edge if black knows exactly what he's doing (according to what I have read). Of course, it's unlikely you'll come across many in otb that know what to do, although correspondence is another thing...
