Hello everyone,
Haven't spotted an official thread for this yet, just some discussions randomly taking place here and there.
For everyone who hasn't played quake before, then this thread is a must. For all those who used to play quake back in the day you need to give it a try! Fast paced, quick action FPS - like the good old days
www.quakelive.com
You need to signup and register, it's all free. You do have to wait in a queue initially on the website due to there being a high demand. After you've done your 10mins in the queue you are eligable to get playing.
The first bit was done very well; the site continues to download after the intitial (10mb) addon is installed to your browser. There are tutorial videos to watch as you wait which is good for the inexperienced player.
After the wait you play the demo level and against a bot, this determines your "skills" to the game. The clever thing about this is that quakelive remembers your skill and modifies as it goes, meaning it finds online games for you based on players with a similar skill level.
It keeps stats on your account, has a friends list, different game styles (CTF, TDM, DM), etc.
From my first experience I was pretty amazed that they have basically taken Quake3 and made it easily playable through an online web interface. You don't need anything special except the initial downloads to play it. It's excatly the same as the original.
So here it is guys, who else has played this yet? I'm interested to see what newer generation gamers think to a game that is just under 10 years old. I think one thing I.D always did well was developing online games, they managed to get me hooked back in the days of Quakeworld on a 28.8k modem
Anyway, I propose to make a list of OcUK guys here who are playing and keep it updated on the first page (Like L4D thread, etc), please post your name and any experiences so far!
