I'm gonna go for 3ghz! :D

will I see a big jump in temps?
or is water the only way.

Anyone running their 170 at 3ghz on air?

Yes

NOTE: This is with priority 9...everything under 8 is simply not valid!

Cooler is XP-120 that has been lapped and modified, a Nexus on top of it that spins @ 800-900rpm.
Now on 1.19v and 2.7GHz and dead silent, would not have been possible with IHS still on.

I'm happy with it.. ;)

As clint was saying before the temps are so important about stability. Now im on water my temps are loads better with only a 3-4degree jump between idle and load. Wasnt able to do 2.9 at 1.472v on a ninja but now able to 3ghz at 1.440v

Good to hear that you have discovered the true potential of your chip ;)

Welcome to the 3GHz club (dual Optie that is) :D

Now at 3.13ghz at 1.58v and in this hot weather im still at 5 degree diff between idle and load. Need massive voltage increases to push further so think i need to settle for a fairly slow speed of 3.13ghz

Yeah its prime stable for 12hrs+. Having some probs though. If i run a x15 multi i cant get anywhere near 3.1ghz stable so dropped to a x14 multi which was 12hrs+ stable. Now falls over straight away even with clocks backed of a fair bit. All i did was install some programs. I re-formatted and started over but still failing on what was stable. It did the same when at x15 - was stable and then wasnt. Gonna drop back to the x13 multi as will be quicker anyway as my 2gb memory can run 238mhz 2,3,2,5 (havent taken it higher)

Hi Ted how do you get a 15X multi?

There was a thread over at xtreme about someone who was told by a relative who worked for amd how to unlock but he wouldnt share it. It is possible but no one has found out how yet. I dont see much benefit on fx60 of unlocked mulits. Im at 3.1ghz at 239 x 13 running a 2gb set of ram 1:1 at 2,3,2,5 - not sure if even mushkins can do that!!

Good job it was free on the insurance or I expect you wouldn't be too pleased about the small increase over the Opteron, I had the same issues with 2 FX55's I had I killed one over volting it and the second one I was real pleased bought it off the Bay for £400 but it was pure rubbish 2.75 GHz was the most I got from it, I had a 4000 Sandy which did better, I certainlt will never buy another top CPU with my money that's for sure.

Completely agree with you. 170 was stretching it for me at £295 about 6months ago. Sold that on in the end. Thats bad news about the fx55's. Best chip i had was a san diego 3700 that ran 24/7 at 3.03ghz at 1.54v on very quiet air. What do you reckon safe volts are for 24/7 use on dual cores. Have taken it up to 1.63v when pushing for 3.2ghz and temps are still fine with my water setup but its needing big voltage increases to go only a little bit faster

I would stay on 3.1GHz, going above that requires to much voltage...just aint worth it. :D
