Assume wrong (though it was a Gen1)

I am Head-Fi person these days not much comes near the HE6
You’re comparing true stereo speakers with a proper source, or headphones, to an original generation plug and play WiFi speaker, not exactly a fair comparison.

For a plug it in wherever there’s power and WiFi the Play 5 tremendous.

Certainly not comparing the HE6 - that would be unfair

The OP asked about music and for that they are a poor choice - you can do much better for a lot less money

Anyone have the Ace headphones, if so how do you find the audio swap feature? Do they feel cinematic at all with the TrueCinema update?

I use some bluetooth headphones with the TV at the moment but the audio is pretty quiet and flat, fancy something with bit more oomph to it.

How is sonos voice, Im getting crazy annoyed how bad alexa has gotten in our home and like the idea of local voice. We basically only use 2 features "play this song/artist" and "set timers".
Looking at just replacing some of our echos (dots, shows and a studio) for era 100s for casual music around the house.

Anyone else just done with Sonos? My play 1 has always been infuriating, losing WiFi, randomly skipping tracks, routinely unable to play music via Google voice.

Their app has gotten worse to use over time and routinely fails to detect any devices, only to restart app and they all appear.

Complete change from my experience back in 2013 with play 5. I'm seriously regretting beam purchase and continuing in with the ecosystem.

I’ve not had any issues. The app is worse but I use AirPlay and Alexa so I rarely have to interact with it.

We use Google voice and some of the problems could certainly be that integration itself.

The connectivity however is not, and that's persisted across 3 ISPs and 4 router variants only 5m from the router. Could well be my unit is and always has been a dud.

I know this isn't just me though, the Sonos forum has posts with the same issue, overall calling the entire network situation hot trash.

I have zero issues with my play ones, sub and soundbar

Myriad of people not in the same position. I've been through virgin router, Fritzbox, Google mesh and now have unifi setup on symmetrical gigabit fiber.

Fix is power cycle the unit pretty much, again common issue. Coincidentally not had issues with the beam, apart from the eArc problems and having to cycle the audio input occasionally.

My recycled Play5 now lives on in the garage and speaks Chinese :D which works perfectly.

That sounds like a dud unit. I’ve got 8 speakers and they’re all solid.

That would be annoying if so, definitely out of warranty by this point. It's a pretty old Sonos one, not sure when yours are from? This particular one is start of 2019 and has always been finicky randomly stopping playback of Spotify, skipping tracks and these weird intermittent periods of lost connectivity, ignoring commands etc.

They definitely had issues with Google integration at this point which might have got better over time.

**Edit**
I've just grabbed an ERA 100 for £140 so can run that and see if I get same issues.

Yeah, definitely worth a shot.

I know Sonos products seem to be picky about network but given you’ve tried a few different routers it’s worth ruling out then unit.

FWIW, I hardwire them wherever I can and then use wireless for the rest. Can’t say I’ve had many issues aside from a ~6 month period when the app was bad.

I think that's a fair point given all the changes it makes sense. Honestly surprised the time has flown by, always frustrated me and had limited desire to spend hours or days fixing it, have talked with Sonos support etc.

Hopefully the newer one has been refined too and bug just goes away. It's interesting you run hybrid setup, as their best practices say one or the other don't mix, although with these newer units not supporting Sonosnet perhaps wired + native WiFi is a different beast.

As a bonus it looks like I have a bug with my discount codes on Sonos as I already used my 30% but had it still available for this!

The app is much better now than it has been over the past year or so but is still way worse than before they released the headphones. I have a mix of old and newer gen speakers in the house over 3 floors, 7 in total, plus an amp with a pair of outdoor non sonos speakers in the eves in my backtard. Did have a gen one soundbar, pair of Play 1 rears and sub in my TV room but just ditched them in favour of an LG soundbar set up. They just work and are of better sound quality imo. At least I can adjust the volume with the TV remote which I never managed to accomplish prior.

I have had non stop issues with the app too. Mostly when grouping speakers and switching between music service providers, especially Mixcloud. It's frustrating and annoying but feel there's not a lot I can do about it. Other than moan on here or to the wife. :D
Incidentally, the app works flawless on my windows laptop.
