This game is now bugging the hell out of me. Season 3. I can win any of the major opens with my eyes closed. As a reward I get one silver and one gold star. I have earnt through training 50 of the 60 available stars.

Yet in season 3 I have about 30 bronze 12 silver and 8 gold.

I'm ranked 15 and everyone I meet has about 50 golds in the Grand slams or masters. I get butchered. Why the hell am I not getting more golds.

I cannot play through 10 years of opens picking up a gold at a time til I get enough stats to win a Grand Slam.

This has stopped being fun.

I will play you on live but I really want to do the career first then play ranked matches for the unlocks.

So far it's frustrating me.

Havent even got any advanced moves.

The thing I like about the online play with this game is atleast it will be even. During your career you will have played both at the top and down the bottom of the screen 50/50. Where with FN I got so used to fighting on the Left.

Its a great game even if the career mode has caused me to homer simpson my hair.

This game should come with a anger management warning. The career is a full time job. I reckon ive put 20 hrs into this game and still dont have advanced shots.

The AI is well dodgy. You can win 3 points off his serve to break and I can predict he will bring me back to duece. No matter what I do he will win 3 points. One service game he hit the net 3 times and it dropped over for the point.

I can win my service game every time until i break his, then he becomes superman.

The computer 99% of the time never make mistakes. You can be losing 3 sets to love but you have hit 70 winners to his 20. You can play a shot to perfection until the computer is behind then 3 times in a row when you have the computer player floundering your shot will go long and out.

Basically to get the gold stars to compete with the best takes 20 hours and 4 seasons of play. I'm in the top 10 playing slams and I have only 10 gold stars to their 60-75.

Well frustrating game.

Im finding it quite straight forward :D

Ranked #2 in my career, nearing the end of my second season. Got just shy of 60 stars (I think thats the maximum), with a load of silver and gold ones too. In the middle of a tournament at the moment and hoping ot be #1 when thats won.

Quick tips: Return serves across court, aim your serves wide and off court and push your opponent as wide as possible with normal shots each time with B.

I still havent progressed that much in the training, you get more stars for winning tournaments and some of the training is bloody frustrating!

See I played the minors and majors only in season 1. My mate did the same yet he stumbled across federer in the first round and managaed to beat him. Beating federer gave him 20 gold and a stack of silver. It also turned all his silver bronze into silver. When ever he trains, the bronze he earns turns straight into silvers.

So he's breezing through it. Will be rank one by the end of year 3.

Yet the furthest ive got in a slam is the semi's then i get taken apart. I have 57 stars about 13 are gold. So I have to enter every Major and Masters just to try to get golds, to play the slams. Thats an absolute chore as they are easy.

Yet I then enter a slam and it's as though it wont let me win with so much bronze. I can win my serve to love. Then break say moya. It then freaks on me. All my shots go wide or he hits un returnable shots until he breaks me.

So my only option is to go through 2 or 3 more seasons getting golds from majors until i have enough stars. Pretty stupid really.

Ah season 3 SPOILER ALERT

You get the chance at the end of season 3 to play someone for a one off 5 million, your rival. I took it up just for the hack. Re-loaded a couple of times because although the guy has next to no decent stars he's the best player ive come across. Not only do you get 5 million but all your troubles go away ;)

You will see what i mean when you beat him :)

Yeah its a slow load, the reviews said as much.

The star system is officially rubbish in career ;) I won a match that gave me a bonus of 24 gold and 24 silver. Yet my player is no better, faster or more powerfull than he was before. I do exactly the same against the top seeds as I did before when I had a list of bronzes.

Weird it just doesnt seem to make much difference.

Just into season 3 now, fully maxed out and picking up the advanced shots in training now. Once you are maxed out there isnt training available each time, you just have to wait for them to show up.

The special scenarios are where the money and easy games are at, I got a guy called Bill Billions offering me £5m to play and win at his birthday :D

Enjoying playing this online, so far I think Ive won 2 and lost 4. A lot more challenging that the career.

Up to #1 now, had about 400 career points at the end of season 2, so the career eachievements are all but done, just have to play through the rest of my career to pick them up.

Yes did you play the billions game I did. I got 24 gold stars for it, one set.

Advanced shots?

This is a major flaw in the gameplay. My mate has won every slam in his third season and he has used no risk shots or advanced shots. When he eventually got them they are unused and he wins win nothing buy the B button. Safe serve with A and then topspin all the way.

I also wish the slam games where not 3 setters. As you cant serve mid game you need sometimes 30 minutes or more to play a game.

Right career finished, didnt get the 1000 points unlock as I didnt realise you would be so limited in season. I started at 18 years old so didnt think I was in that big a hurry. But oh no you ony get 5 years then you retire

So although I was rank 1 i didnt quite achieve 1000 points, but I wont be playing a career again its just so much effort. A good 30-40 hours of effort to play through a career.

If the manual actually told you it was 5 years I couldve got the 1000.

Unless your deperate for the points SP game awards, I would recommend this game as a multi player game only. The SP is seriously flawed.

So onto multi player, ive tried to set a game up to invite a mate, but cannot see how. I know a few people from here have chucked me invites lately. Hows it done?

Ah I see, I was trying to play ranked against my mates career player seems you cant play ranked that way.

So we played a private game with our career players. My mate finished career with his player winning all the slams in his second season, he ate everything thrown at him. I finished my career as no1 but could never win a grand slam.

I absolutely stuffed him online, took him apart. Weird that he whupped the career yet couldnt beat me.

Another flaw with the game for me, is the ranked matches, you have to use your career player. If you get that wrong with your 60 stars you are stuck. You either play through again or dont play ranked.

Anyway I'm now done with career so will take on all comers, although my serve is rubbish as its not a feature you really need in career.

Really sorry mate, missed your invite. I sometimes do I use the dell screen on dual input so sometimes I leave the game running while surfing the net.

So please don't think i'm being rude :)

Can really spare the time right now for a game, the wifes home, she will pack my bags if i spend another night playing tennis ;)

Roddick, pah so your all power no skill :p I can eat Roddicks serve.

I found him easy to beat in career mode. Just move forward as far as possible and a little to the edge of the court and topspin it back across him. I could break his serve nearly ever game we played unless he 140mph plus aced me.

The only top seed that gave me bother was the myrani bloke. His constant slicing got on my nerves. Also every time one under arm served at me I wanted to walk my man round the next and start whacking him with a racquet :D

when is the tourney started

Yet again ive made the mistake of hammering a game before the tournie, I'm now sick of this game :D

Fully unlocked apart from the 250 points for 1000 career points, which I cant be bothered to replay for. To be honest When you play ranked matches you realise just how good some people have got on this in a short time. I Have 60 gold stars and get totally whupped by players who play a perfect risk shot every time.

Can't see me playing this again so its gotta go. Roll on june when moto comes out ;)

Its just not consistent mate, as I said I got the top 15 and was the same. In the slams they ate me alive, but say roddick in the masters I could beat 3-0 3-0.

Where as my mate won everything for 2 years running without having to re-load. Every tournie he won. Yet when we played created player against created player, I kicked him off the court.

Strange. I also had no problems against the big names, soem made up rank 28 would give me hell in the slams, while federer would keep hitting the net.

I didnt like the AI for this one at all.

IMHO 5 sets for the slams is too much, i'm just thankfull they didnt make it 6 games too.

The slams become a slog.

The majors, 3 matches with 3 sets was about right.

Its not the top seeds that are the problem, not when I played it was the high seeded made up players. Federer was so easy it wasnt worth the game.

You will see that you have 30 stars now but when you have 60 gold the matches you play will be no different to the ones you are having now. Federer has something like 75 gold but you wait to see how easy he is. He has one shot, the cross court backhand.

Admittedly I must have missed the 5 year part, can't check as my copy is long gone :)

I bet by the time you have finished your career you will be sick of it. The trouble with career is you dont get any advance shots until you have 60 stars from training. Which if you play the matches for wins, takes a while.

So you get into season 4 before you get advanced shots, by then you wont even need them. Every point is pretty much the same. The guy serves, you hit it diagonally across he returns and you hit it to the other corner. All by using the topspin button. Your own serve doesnt even matter that much, infact if I was to play it through again I would recommend 1 star on service. I actually found the best serve to beat the AI was to safe serve at very low power. To 140 mph serve caused me more problems on the return than it did them in the first place.

So far for me, this is better than Top Spin was on the Xbox. Before I get too involved in it tonight I want to sit down and plan exactly what stars I want my guy to have, then I don't have to think about what training to do, I can just aim for the ones that give me the right stars.

The current belief from scouring places online, for stars. Is :

Stamina 5
Speed 10
Reflex 5
Focus 1
Service 2
Fore and backhand 10 each
Volley 3
Spin 1
Presision 5
Power 8

But I will say that I had 10 presision and I was no more acurate than when I had 1.

To play online max speed is a must. Ive met two types of player online, the newb who rushes in with 5 stars and the total pro who leaves me wondering how the hell they are pulling off shots and getting to the ball :D

yay i beat federed (number2 currently in my career thing) 3-0, 3-1 and 4-2, but in3rd round of wimbledon i now got roddick whos ranked number1 :(

/edit

just beat Roddick

4-3
3-0
3-0

:D

Yeah told you they are both easy, Roddick is only a problem if he ace's. Other than that his high serve causes him problems on the return because he's slow.

well i won wimbledon :D yay

although i found against Haas in the final i could fairly easily beat him on his serve, but when i was serving i was getting pwd :S

final was

3-1
3-4
3-1
4-3

:)

A mate and I both found it hard to hold serve from the bottom of the screen, but at the top could win 40-0.
