official Transformers 3 Thread ere

To be honest i think Michael Bay's time is over, he was a decent director for the 90's and early 2000's but cinema goers tastes have changed now.

Can't agree with that at all.

Transformers: $150m budget, $708m to date (Rating 57% critics, 87% audience)
Transformers 2: $210m budget, $836m to date (Rating 20% critics, 76% audience)
Transformers 3: $195m budget, $162m in 4 days (Rating 38% critics, 90% audience). I predict it'll go on to match the previous ones given equal time (Especially as it's far better than Transformers 2).

(Numbers from the-numbers.com and rottentomatoes.com)

Cinema-goers seem to eat them up, its the critics that dislike them. Big budget big action summer blockbusters have their place in this world just as much as the Sennas and Black Swans. :)

I saw this on Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was. :D

Can anyone explain what the space shuttle was supposed to be in it for? Surely it would just add weight if they just intended to life the Autobots ship?

Magic's quick review:
Overall arguably the best film of the three. There's plot holes all over the place in relation to the first film. The action sequences are much improved having junked the quick cut and immense close up style of the earlier films that had me struggling to work out what was going on. I suspect that it's not due to some sort of epiphany on on Michael Bay's part but more a requirement to make it work in 3D. Not that I watched in 3D. If it makes the 2D version better then I'm all for it.

The rest of it is typically Michael Bay. Leering eye candy shots of the new love interest who isn't terrible considering she's a model not an actress. Borderline racism and homophobia in the bit parts. Badly disguised sweary in there, not sure how the censors let that pass.

Shiny Rosbif is rubbish as usual. Not sure what John Malkovich and Frances McDormand are doing there but they be having fun hamming it up, as does Leonary Nimoy as Sentinel Prime's voice.

Genius? No. Better filmed than the first film but undermined by plot holes. Turn your brain off and it's an enjoyable action movie.

If you want to see a proper film, go see Senna - it's vastly better.

it is often the case, your average joe is more than likely going to turn a blind eye to the flaws in any film, so they can have a few hours of entertainment.

On the other hand, it's the job of critics to dissect films, and to find their flaws, otherwise it wouldn't be a review.

Look at the Star Wars prequels, they've had some pretty harsh criticism levied against them, but they still did great at the Box Office.

Something doesn't have to be critically acclaimed for it to be entertaining. That's the way it's always been.

It's Transformers. I could have made the film with my phone camera and it would have been a multi million dollar hit at the box office.

Same with any other big name. Star Trek, Spiderman, Batman etc.

The franchise deserves a decent director though. Thankfully most other franchises do quite well, far better than what Michael Bay can pull off... Christopher Nolan especially.

I mostly agree, however my problem was with his original statement, which was that Michael Bay was out of touch with what cinema-goers want, which is clearly not the case.

Bay's Transformers films will never win any Academy Awards or BAFTA's (Except maybe for when it comes to visual effects), but they are great popcorn movies.

My problem with critics is that those "reviews" you talk about don't seem to be up to much either. Mostly they talk about the films from two perspectives only: story and acting, and don't take much notice of anything like art direction, cinematography (Except when it fit's with their pre-conceived idea of an art house film) or vision, and most importantly for the critics who write for mainstream publications whose aim is to let Joe average know what film they might like to watch - entertainment factor.

Truthfully though, they probably shouldn't review the entertainment factor either, as they seem to be too busy judging the film by it's more intellectual merits to be able to say whether they remotely enjoyed it or not.

Wish people would stop getting butthurt over one scene, I think the reason he used that old footage was because of the extra that got hurt in the filming of one of those scenes.

Was disappointed with it, Storyline was very weak, lots of plot holes, terrible acting from Rosie, but daymmmm she's fine! (The 1st scene :O).

Some awesome CGI though, which made watching at an IMAX worth it.

I'd say worst of the 3, or maybe on par with the 2nd. After watching the 1st again last night on ch4, i'd say it's clearly ahead of the rest. If not just for Teddy Brodis! (He can eat the whole plate, don't you know)

Saw this friday in 3d, awsome film but very long almost 3 hrs!!!
i miss megan fox much better actor than this plastic model.

the plot was abit messy tbh, and as always one minute they loose then they win.

and some bits really predictable i.e. the "shuttle" which found me getting frustrated. i was hoping for a last finish off like a big robot, like all the autobots join and turn into one big robot, i know most probly not in the books but that would have been awsome.

spoiler

Very surprised that ironhide was killed

optimus kills megatron at the end, even though he helps him to kill sentinel

from what iv'e heard there will be no transformers 4.

Seen it last night in 3d, wasn't bad but a lot of anoying points.

zomg spolierszz

Why's Megatron living like an insane hobo? He's running about feeding hatchlings and still has a lot of battle damage from the last movie, Starscream on the other hand has no such damage. Megatron has his mouth repaired yet his head is wide open with little parasites eating away at him.

WTF was that little minion blob thing that was hanging around Megatron?

Why are there so many generic Decepticons? They did this in part 2 as well, some you knew and some just seemed to be just random grunts that had no name. In this Movie you had Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave, Laserbeak and thats it, its hard to say if that worm thing with Shockwave was a Decepticon or some kind of automated vehicle. Given that theres a hell of a lot they could have chosen from it just seems rushed.

Why does Shockwave of all the Decepticons in this seem to be the most intimidating? Doesn't really suit what his character was at all, in this he seems to be like some kind of Hunter with that Snake\Worm like Decepticon at his disposal.

Ironhide gets blasted and rusts away to nothing and nothing is said, yet this is one of Primes closest friends..0_o

Soundwave in this was also pretty Generic, there was nothing at all that stood out about him and he could easily have been one of the generic grunts that appear out of nowhere, his only distinguishing feature that differentiated him from the grunts was his voice which is the same as Dr Claw from Inspector Gadget. Near the end of the movie where he executes the buck toothed Autobot scientist (whoever the hell he was) i only twigged it was Soundwave because of the voice, besides that i would have assumed it was a generc grunt.

It also seems that producer Don Murphy is slightly miffed at negative comments on the movie, he posted a rant then deleted it. Someone snagged a pic of the psot though and it can be seen here, have to zoom in to read it properly though, some swearies..very professional.

I loved the film, thought it was great for what they did with it. I don't think it could have been anymore. Some nice hints at other things in the Transformers universe, eg The Ark.

I do have hopes of another producer/director picking up the franchise and doing some more things with the history and such.

On the whole I love the trilogy that Bay gave us, yes it has problems, but who cares, we had giant transformers fighting. :D

**Spoilers**

That's because Starscream was not really involved in any battles in ROTF, yet Megatron got pummled by Optimus, Starscream even told Megatron to retreat at the end.

I imagined the little 'bots' going over him were trying to fix him and Megatron hated it so stopped them from time to time.

I thought it fitted perfectly with what Shockwave is all about, he comes across in the original stuff as intimidating.

What I don't get is when they face each other in Chernobyl, and Shockwave calls out to Optimus, then he disappears and nothing more is said. Very odd.

In ROTF Starscream has his arm ripped off and bashed around, at the end of the Movie its still not attached.

The bots to me looked more like parasites gnawing away at him, he's picked a few off and crushed them so it would seem more likely they are parasites. Wouldn't make much sense to kill something repairing you back to full strength, especially with whats to come in the movie.

As for Shockwave, in the original cartoon he came off more as a scientific type, in this he comes off more as a Hunter if anything.

Cannot remember Starscream having a fight in ROTF. :o

Ooops.

I'd love a Transformers 4 to start with Unicron reviving Megatron as Galvatron.

Talking about throwing your toys out of the pram. Just because it's a big money spinner doesn't automatically means it's a good enough film. What is so wrong with striving to be something more then just a mindless blockbuster?
