Do they update the UniFi OS and Network app like daily or something ? new Network update notification just popped up for me and I only had the UDR7 for like 2 days lol

my UDR7 just hard crashed for some reason, totally crashed with no LAN and Wi-Fi , tried pressing the button on the bottom of the UDR7 and it didnt work so i had to power cycle to get it back up and running. Not great.

Well, all my research over the last 2 days has shown me exactly what I need/want:

Want....... Edge Gateway Fiber, some managed switches, U6 Pro x3 indoors, U6 Mesh outdoors x2, multiple cameras and a G4 doorbell.

Need...... Amazon POE switch for power/switching and x3 2nd hand UAP-AC-PRO.

:D

No idea what the Edge Gateway Fibre is... Why would you get U6 APs when they have the U7s? :)

They need to be completely wiped and have no partitions.

Done that multiple times, wiped via Synology, cleared via windows diskpart clean and also fdisk on a linux box. No change, if I SSH onto the NVR the drives aren't even listed when doing a lsblk. Every other device I have sees the drives perfectly and I've checked them also via the Kingston tools, no errors.

Will look at a gparted later from a spare Dell Optiplex micro.

Unifi support, they've just said buy their drives and closed the ticket.

I'll either continue to use the cloud key gen2+ with protect and move the NVR on or look at some WD purple drives.

I'd assume it's one of those.

As above, the U7-Pro-XG / U7-Pro-XGS / E7 (less so) are the go-to options now.

Replaced the USW-Enterprise-8-PoE and the 8 port aggregation I had in the loft. I've got more to connect up to it. Very happy so far, my first etherlighting switch and I find it useful as a quick glance to make sure things have come up at the right speed.

Might move the USW-Enterprise-8-PoE to the garage, I have a really old US 8 60W in there and nearly out of ports on it, and it does get quite high on the PoE power budget as there's some floodlights hanging off it.

I was taking the mick, imagined he'd mixed up the old Edge kit with the UniFi naming scheme :p

Can confirm U7 Pro XG is great, have two :D

Quick question for the Unifi minded. So I got my UDR7 set up and on LAN1 is connected to my office to my main gaming rig and it is a 2.5Gbe connection. I was thinking if I get a UX7 can I take that LAN connection and plug it into the UX7 WAN port and the 2.5Gbe back into the gaming rig. Will that work and also the WiFi part will be meshed ? Thanks.

Because a higher number isn't always better and there is no real world difference, other than a lighter wallet.

I'm actually getting some older WIFI 5 AC Pro APs as I need improved WIFI for my 67 Mbps FTTC connection around a large house. A group of £35 APs is far superior the x1 expensive bleeding edge one and there's some good testing data out there to show real world speeds across the range of APs they offer.

Each to their own, for a mere £15 difference I'd always future proof.

APs don’t just do internet access, they also do local traffic. Whether that’s important to you or not is another matter. I can sit in my kitchen and move files to/from my NAS much faster than wifi 5 APs can do.

The U7 series has dropped Bluetooth support, but I think they are coming out with new home sensors that will work with the U7 series.

Plus to get the most out of the U7 you need to upgrade your network for 2.5gbe, yet more cost.

It's cancelled be a tough choice and you are well into the realm of diminishing returns for 99% of people at home.

Crossed chats from above I think.

I'm only needing WiFi 5 sensors to improve my overall house WiFi for minimal cost with rare data transfer across the network.

My want list would include U6 APs, but U7 do offer more theoretical speed and will be better for the future once WiFi 7 devices come out. 6ghz band is also good if you're in a congested areas, but trying to get 6ghz to work through thick brick walls across a large house would need sooo many APs then cost would be mad.

They have the Super Link, which supports BT, as I currently run most of my UI sensors off.
