Had a weird problem this week , possibly following the latest round of updates although my wife now tells me it's always been an issue, just not as bad as since Monday when things got updated.

Running an original UDR along with a U6-in wall.

Wife's work laptop connected to the U6-in wall, trying to use Citrix and it's just a laggy mess, unusable. Loads of errors in the event log of the citrix machine relating to Citrix TDICA transport driver (event IDs 1005, 1006, 1007).

Switch the laptop to tethering from her phone, no problems at all smooth as silk.

Rack my brain to see why this could be happening, short of downgrading everything again.

Not sure why I thought to try it, but locked the laptop to the UDR access point which is a worse signal (-72dBm compared to -53dBm) and everything works fine now, smooth as silk.

And this is when I'm told that even before things went unworkable this week, it's always been a bit laggy, but now it's all fine.

So I'm a little stumped as to why the UDR AP is fine with this but the U6-IW is not!

Is the U6 wall hard wired? Is wireless meshing turned on?

Could be anything really, cabling fault, interference on the run to the U6 wall, channel overlap, wireless meshing etc.

Hard wired, has a load of stuff running through it with no problems, at a guess about 14 things going through it.

Some of those are wireless, some connected to the inbuilt switch including a flex mini switch.

Have you made any MTU changes on the Inwall?

Is it just Citrix? Have you done some other performance or latency tests from that device?

Any observable packet loss?

Not made any MTU changes.

Not done any other proper testing as only really discovered the issue yesterday, and just needed to get it working.

Switching the AP did it, will see if can revisit and try and work it out sometime when convenient.
 
Good News Everyone!


As expected, they didn't remain in stock long. I'd subscribed for stock updates, as yet haven't had any emails and it's gone from 'Available June' to 'Sold out' in the last few days.

I'll get one when (if?) they come back into stock. My FTTP has been very reliable (as was my VDSL actually) but for the cost I figured I may as well get one. I know it's Redcap but as a backup it'll be fine.
 
Hi all,

I have currently a USG PRO 4, and a Gen 1 CloudKey.
I have just received a U7 Long Range, which I am now being told that the Gen 1 CloudKey cannot support adoption of.
What would be the recommended upgrade route forward? Should I just get a Gen 2 CloudKey, or go for a cloud gateway instead?

We only run gigabit internet, and no 2.5Gbe either internally

I wouldn’t recommend the gen2 cloud key plus as as a ‘potential protect expansion device’ because of its 2.5” form factor for storage.

4K cameras use a lot of storage, even when set to h265. 2.5” hdd’s cap out at 5TB and don’t come in a NAS/CCTV optimised option. SSD’s now cost £trolololol per gb. You also run into capacity constraints.

If you ever went down that route, I’d suggest the NVR instant.

TLDR, get the gateway. It supports more features you will use now and you aren’t really missing out on protect because you’ll end up replacing it anyway.

Already got a Hikvision NVR running cameras and although it's old, no need to replace TBH

The only reason I can see to get the cloud key is because of protect. If you are not using it then just grab the cheapest gateway which has a controller built in which is the £99 ultra IIrC
 
For a while now I'd been getting some random disconnected notifications for my two CCTV cameras, usually overnight. They seem to be fixed now with a recent update but the update made no mention of this issue, presume they don't mention everything in the literature for the updates.

It's a pretty solid upgrade and a few nice to have PPPoE features i.e MTU

Oh wow they've finally copied commit confirm. If that's implemented uniformly across the stack it's a great feature.

The PPPoE baby jumbo thing is very funny if you're familiar with the quantity of forum posts with Ubiquiti employees asking "why do you want that" for about 15 years.
